The Beginning Human Life

The following are the Theories being used;

1. Neurological Theory- is based on the notion of the capabilities and
function of a gadget called EEG (electroencephalogram). For a fetus to be
considered to have life when its brain waves must be duly captured by
EEG. Human Life begins from four to six months after gestation.

2. Biological Independence Theory- is founded on the notion of viability. It

depends on the maturation of the lungs of the growing fetus.

3. Metabolic Theory- advocates the idea that there is no such thing as

fertilization. They argued that an egg cell and a sperm cell are each
individual living organism that cannot be accounted to give way to
fertilization. The development of the fetus is a continuous process whose
beginning cannot be determined.

4. Embryological Theory- maintains that the beginning of life happens at

gastrulation, not fertilization. During gastrulation the embryo has
“graduated” of the possibility of twinning, hence individuality of the fetus
is attained.

5. Self-Consciousness Theory- human life begins when the child earns

consciousness of his/her very self.

6. Genetic Theory- fertilization or conception occurs the moment the sperm

cell fuses with the egg cell. This glorious event marks the beginning of
humanness and personhood.

“Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of
God and it remains forever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its
sole end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can
under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent
human being” (CCC 2258).
