Classroom Document - Classroom management materials

This is a large poster hung above the board in the front of the classroom. At the
beginning of the year, the teacher and her class decide on 5 classroom rules that they
can agree to carry out for the remainder of the year. This is beneficial because the
students help come up with their own rules, so they know that they are reasonable.
After the rules are agreed on, the student and teacher all sign the agreement at the
bottom (I blurred out the names for privacy reasons). While I was in my placement, the
teacher referenced the poster when they began having issues between students saying
hurtful things to one another. She noted that number 3 said, “treat others the way you
want to be treated” and reminded the students that they signed this document in
agreement to act in that way. I liked that the teacher did this at the beginning of the
year to set the tone for the rest of the year. In my own future classroom, I want to
implement this type of preventative measure, trying to get ahead of issues before they
occur.
