Hi, A food technologist can get the job of a Quality Assurance Manager, Production Manager, Laboratory Supervisor,
Food Packaging Manager or as a technician in food processing and packaging industry or even as a research
associate in premier institutes, universities and research and development units. A post - graduate candidate in food
technology can work as a lecturer or an advisor in Government Colleges, Inspection Boards or Quality Control Cells.
Historically some of the companies which have been recruiting Process and Food technology experts have been
Nestle, Levers, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer, Pepsi Foods, Cargill, Conagra ,Verka , Vita etc. to name a few. However
you would need to enhance your qualification by pursuing a MBA or Post graduate diploma in food technology. The
food technology courses cover the various aspects of food technology, microbiology, food preservation techniques,
genetics and food packaging. Central food Technology and Research Institute, Mysore, is a premier institute for
food technology courses. Apart from this, there are several other institutes best known for offering food technology
courses in India. Good luck.
Hi, Food Technology opens up several opportunities for you. You could look at some of the companies, which are in
the business of manufacturing food products and may also have an in-house R& D facility. She could look at pursuing
a MBA. A MBA can be done at any stage of your career and it adds more value if done after a few years of working.
Another alternative would be to consider a M.Tech/M.Sc. degree, for future career growth and development. Jobs
and pay package are always better after a PG degree. Food Technologists can specialize in any of the many fields
of food processing such as sugar alcohol, bakery, oil, fruits and vegetables etc. one can do Ph.D in food technology
or biotechnology or food preservation. However, if she wants to shift to IT sector, she would need to retrain herself for
the domain she would like to work in (development, testing, networking etc). Most of the IT companies would need
you to be completely up to date with the technologies/ platforms that they use. If you opt for a career in IT we
recommend that you do some short-term course to bring you up to speed with the tech sector. She should takethe
time to make an honest assessment of her strengths and what she think she will enjoy doing more and choose
accordingly. When we choose a career based on our natural inclinations towards work, we perform better and get
better growth opportunities in our chosen field. All the best.
