Introduction

“CSR has always been an integral part of M&M group’s vision and the corner stone of our
core value of good corporate citizenship”- Keshub Mahindra

Mahindra has actively participated in responsible investment in the society beyond the legal
& statutory requirements of the company. Much before the 2013 Companies Act CSR ruling
act came into existence, Mahindra had pledged 1 per cent of its PAT to CSR activities in
2005.

Its 1st effort was in the form of setting up of the KC Mahindra Education Trust in 1954. It was
followed by Mahindra Foundation in 1969.

Mahindra believes that nation’s many social problems can be solved through education and
thus it is the main trust area for their CSR activities, it has also invested in the areas of public
health and environment.

Mahindra & Mahindra Limited CSR activities in Northeast India

Mahindra & Mahindra Limited CSR activities in Northeast India is almost negligible. Even the
Impact India’s Lifeline Express has not reached out to the people of Northeast India.
However, certain CSR initiatives such as K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post- Graduate
Studies Abroad, Mahindra Search for Talent Scholarship, K.C. Mahindra UWC Scholarship
and Mahindra All India Talent Scholarship (MAITS) are benefitted by the students of
Northeast India. Mahindra’s CSR activity remains dormant in NE India because the firm does
not have any major investment project currently functioning in the region. However, during
the recent global investor meet in Guwahati. The company has shown interest for investing
in establishing a club Mahindra accommodation facility and a vehicle manufacturing unit in
Assam. Moreover, the company has pledged to invest Rs.1500 crore for tourism
infrastructure development of Assam. The company’s CSR activities will hopefully then
become more active in the region.
