The purpose of this project was to experience an art exhibit for ourselves and see what we
have learned from the lessons when analyzing a piece of art. When I read the instructions for this
assignment I was worried of my abilities to properly describe the contents of the piece of art. My
goal was to visit the museum as soon as possible after given the assignment directions, so that I
As the deadline approached I made the decision to simply visit the Los Angeles County
Museum of Art (LACMA), instead of going to one I had never visited before. I was also unsure
of which piece of art to analyze and describe, I had chosen three but ultimately stuck to
Apocalyptic Landscape by Ludwig Meidner because I was entranced by the figures in it. I also
wasn’t sure of what to call the color scheme of the piece but I knew that it included two different
types.
When completing this assignment I was able to now identify the components of each art
piece and the details of its creation, something I never really paid attention to before. I also
learned that I am more interested in art than I thought, it has become interesting to me now that I
know the components and different types of art. I felt that upon completing the paper I excelled
at accurately describing the piece I selected, submitting a very detailed paper, but I felt I need
improvement on managing my due dates, since I completed the paper before the deadline. Next
time I plan to take my time in selecting the piece I am going to evaluate, since this time around I

chose from the first few I came across. I was proud that I was able to turn in a detailed report of
the piece of art but disappointed that I didn’t put much thought into selecting the piece.
I feel that upon completing this report I was mostly able to communicate my ideas. I did
so by submitting a detailed report that not only included the components of the piece but also
what I interpreted the piece to mean, and what the artist’s thought process could have been. I felt
I investigate the world by looking at the time period that the painting was created and analyzing
how the artist’s life was influenced by that time, and how it influenced their work.
