Oakview School Counseling Vision:

All students at Oakview Elementary are engaged problem solvers who know how to work
collaboratively on a task. They will be successful in their learning and be prepared to face a
changing world. The students will take responsibility for their learning and behavior by show
respect for all people in the school.

Oakview School Counseling Mission:

The Oakview Counseling Program will provide a balanced and comprehensive program to all
students through whole group and small group lessons, individual, and group services. The
program will promote academic, career, and personal/social development so that every child will
be effective communicators and critical thinkers.

Assignment: Write a list of school counselor activities that you feel are needed to address the
district’s and school’s mission and vision statement. Highlight the activities that you believe are
not currently being done at your site.

Activities:
- Classroom guidance lessons that highlight and practice positive collaboration with peers
- Classroom guidance lessons (as well as creating a school environment) that foster a positive
attitude towards school and learning
- Collaborating with teachers to create engaging, relevant lessons
- Community field trips and service opportunities that expose students to current events and real-
world situations in their communities
- Work with students to develop efficient coping skills, flexible thinking and resiliency when
problem solving or faced with challenges that result from a changing world
- Activities and school-wide opportunities that foster creativity and innovation (this is being
done, but more opportunities could be provided)
