5.5 Configure Equipment Protective Type and Mode

5.5.1 Configuration Introduction

If configure two MU for one IDU, each MU is connected with one ODU and one
antenna separately to form main channel and diversity channel which are standby with
each other. Service can be switched between these two channels. During system
maintenance process, MU can support hot plug/unplug and power off.

There are 4 protection types that equipment can support: Unprotected, 1+1 Hot
Standby, 1+1 Space Diversity and 1+1 Frequency Diversity.

5.5.1.1 Hot Standby

Principles of Hot Standby are shown as below:

Equipment’ transmitting and receiving can be changed over at the same time, by using
MU and the corresponding ODU. Namely that if the transceiver is working as the
master, the slaver standby will be swapped to be the master in case of changeover.

5.5.1.2 Space Diversity

Space diversity is defined as two antennas in receiving end which have different height
can be used to receive signal transmitted from one antenna in transmitting end. As
electromagnetic wave arrived at two antennas with height Δh between them in different
time, when signal arrived at one antenna occur fading, then signal arrived at the other
one not. If Δh is big enough (Δh>>10λ, λ is wavelength), then signal in two path can be
a big difference so that almost all the deep fading are nothing related.

After signal in two paths is adjusted time delay, phase or amplitude, they will be
combined with certain principle to decrease fading impact, and increasing receiving
level. For space diversity, adding transceiver is necessary and its frequency capacity
ratio is higher than frequency diversity. Please refer to below Figure Configure
Equipment Protective Type and Mode-11

20
Chapter 3 Checkup before Power-On

Figure Configure Equipment Protective Type and Mode-11 Space Diversity Mode

For Space Diversity, ODU changeover principle is shown as below:

Transmitting and receiving changeover is separate with each other, namely that IDU
selectively adopt receiving signal with good quality from ODU automatically, but
transmitting signal only adopt signal from main antenna.

5.5.1.3 Frequency Diversity

Frequency Diversity is defined as transmitter end transmit one signal by two different
frequencies at the same time, and then combine these two signals in receiving end. Due
to different frequency, electromagnetic in two frequencies rarely relate with each other,
and the probability of fading are also different. Frequency Diversity has extraordinary
effect on anti-fading, but cost double times due to transceiver added. Also it takes up
double times frequency bandwidth and decrease frequency capacity ratio. Please refer
to below Figure Configure Equipment Protective Type and Mode-12:

21

5.5.1.4 Protection Mode and Protection Type Relationship Introduction

Microwave equipment support above three protection configurations and three

protection modes, they are shown as below:

Table Configure Equipment Protective Type and Mode-3 Protection Mode Relationship Table

Protection Mode Automatic Forced Revertive

Hot Standby (HSB) yes yes yes
Space Diversity (SD) yes yes yes

2. Protection Mode Setting

Product provides 4 protection types, please select proper configuration

according to data planning.

· If set “Protection Type” to Unprotected, then configuration finish.

· If set “Protection Type” to hot standby, then turn to step3.

· If set “Protection Type” to Space Diversity, then turn to step3.

· If set “Protection Type” to Frequency Diversity, then turn to step3.

3. Set protection mode

Product provides 3 protection types, please select proper configuration

according to data planning.

· Automatic Protection Mode

In automatic protection mode, transmission channel is up to equipment status

and channel status together.

· Forced Mode

In forced protection mode, transmission channel is up to network manager or

service manager, and nothing related to equipment status or channel status.

· Revertive Mode

In revertive protection mode, network manager and service manager set a prior
channel in advance, when equipment change over it always try to return back to
this prior channel. Prior channel can be adopted main channel and standby
channel both. Default channel is main channel. Revertive mode has plenty of
practical value, for example in asymmetric coupling (such like 1/6dB
attenuator), if set a prior channel in advance can obtain a better system

performance.

4. Click <Apply>.

5.6 Set TPC mode

When wireless link got interference, receiving level is decreasing and it cause BER
increasing which impact service quality. Through setting TPC mode, when receiving
level decrease to a level lower or higher than value already set, then receiving end
contact transmitting end to decrease or increase Tx power, as a result receiving level is
maintained in a proper value and radio transmitting quality also can be improved.

Configuration settings are shown as below:

1. In interface of PDH CIT WEB, select [Configuration→ODU→TPC]. It is

shown as below Figure Set TPC mode-14:

5.9 Loopback Test

Loopback test is a common test which is implemented to check and analysis problem
of port or link.

E1 configuration includes Line Loopback and Inward Loopback two modes.

· Line Loopback loops E1 receiving signal to transmitting end, and then send to
cable.

· Line Loopback loops E1 transmitting signal to receiving end and then return to

6 Antenna Alignment

6.1 Precautions
Pay attention to equipment safety during the antenna alignment. Twisting waveguide or
feeder and impact on ODU are strictly prohibited.

During the antenna alignment, receive level of both ends shall be monitored. Signal
drop shall be reported to the other end immediately.

During the antenna fixation, personal on the ground shall monitor receive voltage all
the time and keep the personal on the tower informed to prevent receive level drop in
antenna fixation.

6.2 Procedures
After software commissioning, adjust antenna to build the link. Procedures as follows:

1. Confirm the azimuth with a compass and mark the direction of the link on the
ground

2. Adjust the antenna according to the mark on the ground and keep the pitching
parallel with the ground.

3. Power on IDU and make sure that the transmit power is set to maximum.

4. Connect a multimeter to the AGC port on ODU and adjust antenna according to
the voltage changes.

5. Keep the antenna pitching angle to zero while adjusting the azimuth angle.
When the voltage reaches maximum, keep the azimuth angle still while
adjusting the pitching angle. When the voltage reaches maximum, fix the
antenna.

6. Adjust the antenna of the other end in the same procedures. When the voltage
reaches maximum, fix the antenna.

Note:

Antenna shall be adjusted in the fore-mentioned steps for at least 2 times to make sure
