The first train in India “Great Indian Peninsula Railway” ran between Bombay and Thane
on 16 April, 1853. The distance covered by this train is around 34 kilometers.
Vivek Express runs between Dibrugarh (Assam) - Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu) is the
longest distance running train in India.
The National Academy of Indian Railways (NAIR), previously known as Railway Staff
College is located in Vadodara, Gujarat.
The longest railway bridge in India is constructed over Vembanad Lake in Kerala.
Howrah Junction is the busiest railway stations in terms of passenger volume per day in

gauge is 5 feet 6 inches (1676mm).
The Railway manufacturing units are maintained by Ministry of Railways and they are
spread across six locations in India. They are:
