TODAY IN CHIEFSVILLE… 1 4 0 4

Hot Chiefs and Mild Wings: Syracuse put the first five batters of the game on base, and completed a WP: Austin Voth (1-0, 1.69)
sweep of Rochester yesterday, posting a season high seven runs and 14 hits. Bengie Gonzalez’s seventh LP: Dietrich Enns (0-1, 9.82)
inning home run marked the Chiefs first long ball since Andrew Stevenson’s on opening night. All nine SV: None
Chiefs reached base safely for the first time on the season. It also marked the first Syracuse game this year HR: Cave (1), Gonzalez (1)
that was not decided by one run, and the first game where the game winning run scored before the eighth. Voth: 5.2 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 9 K, HR
Gonzalez: 1-4, HR, 3 RBI
Bend But Don’t Break: The Chiefs have been exceptional to start the early season at not allowing
De Aza: 3-4, 2 R, RBI, BB
baserunners to score. Over the last four games, Syracuse has stranded 46 runners on base, holding its
opponents to a .093 average with runners in scoring position (4-43). Notable: All nine Chiefs reached base,
season high runs & hits.
Front Running Again: With Tuesday’s win, the Chiefs moved over .500 for the first time since April 23,
2017, when the Chiefs were 8-7. Entering with a 4-2 record and over .500 for the second day in a row, today
marks the first time since June 10, 2016 (when Syracuse sat 30-29) that the Chiefs record has sat over .500
for more than one day. Other firsts achieved with yesterday’s win included the Chiefs’ first series sweep in
Rochester since April 2012. The win also completed Syracuse’s first winning road trip of more than four
games since July 4-10, 2016. Syracuse vs. Norfolk

Milone held the RailRiders to a run on four hits prior to the sixth inning. @SYR: 0-0 @NOR: 0-0
Pen Notes: After struggling a bit against the RailRiders, the Chiefs bullpen had a spectacular series against 2017 - SYR 4-2 vs. NOR
the Red Wings. Syracuse’s pen pitched to a 0.73 ERA in the three game sweep, allowing just one earned run
in 12 and one-third innings…David Goforth has thrown four shutout innings to start the season…Carlos @SYR: 3-0 @NOR: 1-2
————————————————

7/26 A (12:05p)
Back In Your Arms: After piloting the 2011 Chiefs, Randy Knorr is back in Syracuse as manager in 2018.
Knorr spent four seasons as the Nationals MLB Bench Coach (2012-15) under Davey Johnson and Matt
Williams and two as Special Advisor to the GM (2016-17) in between his stints as manager in Syracuse.
Knorr is also a former Chiefs player, having suited up for Syracuse as a member of the Blue Jays
organization. Knorr spent parts of four seasons with the Chiefs (1991-92, 95-96), totaling 182 games.

The Ties That Bind: Chiefs OF Victor Robles left Monday night's game diving for a ball in right-center
field…Today marks the 129th season of professional baseball in Syracuse, dating back to 1876…It is also
the 58th consecutive season of pro ball in Syracuse, dating back to the modern Chiefs franchise’s founding
in 1961…2018 is the first season the Syracuse team is not community owned since 1957.
