Standard 3.E.4: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the composition of Earth and
the processes that shape features of Earth’s surface.
Standard 4.L.5: The student will demonstrate an understanding of how the structural
characteristics and traits of plants and animals allow them to survive, grow, and reproduce.

Standard 5.L.4: The student will demonstrate an understanding of relationships among biotic and
abiotic factors within terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.

Learning Outcomes
What will teachers know and be able to do as a result of this lesson?
At the end of this lesson, teachers will possess more presentation zen and will be able to develop
a more creative presentation using new multimedia (Powtoon).

Process/Activities
How will this lesson be facilitated with teachers?

 Discuss the elements of a good presentation

 Discuss the types of tools the teachers use personally to present
 Show a presentation using slideshare
 Reflect on how the teachers’ presentations are similar and different
 Show PowToon explainer video
 Reflect on how the Powtoon’s video is different from teachers’ presentations
 Create PowToon accounts
 Create presentations (explainer videos) on content standards provided

Differentiation Activities/Methods
How will the workshop be adapted for different skill levels?
I will differentiate for different skill levels by providing one-on-one assistance as needed. I will
also have someone familiar with Powtoons assisting me.

Assessment of Learning
How will the participants demonstrate mastery of the learning outcomes?

The teachers will demonstrate mastery of the learning outcomes by creating a powtoons video
aligned to the standards they were given. The presentation (video) will include all elements of a
good video we discussed earlier in the workshop.

Resources
Provide at least three online resources for participants to review content and/or extend the
learning.

Participants can review these resources to extend their learning

Reflection:
My professional development session was on creating multimedia for instructional use. The
teachers identified this as one of the professional development sessions they will like to attend in
the needs assessment I provided them weeks earlier. I decided to make the professional
development session hands-on. From a previous session, one main complaint the teachers had
were that ideas were presented, but they never had a chance to work with it before being required
to implement it in their strategies. I paid close attention to this and planned for my teachers to
create Powtoon videos that deliver the content o students in an interesting manner.
Before the teachers made their videos, we discussed the characteristics of good presentations.
After listing several traits, the teachers and I discussed the digital tool they use to present
information. The majority of the teachers stated they used Microsoft PowerPoint, Prezi, or
google slides. Next, we viewed a presentation developed using Microsoft PowerPoint and
discussed whether the traits of a good presentation were present. The teachers were then asked to
reflect on the similarities between presentations they make and the presentation they had viewed.
Then I showed the teachers the Powtoon video with similar content, and the teachers were
amazed at how well it presented the information. After another reflection, the teachers were
tasked to develop Powtoons of their own.
After receiving feedback from the teachers, I decided that in the next session I will group the
teachers so that they have more assistance from one another. I decided to make this change

because some teachers were a little less comfortable with using the video tool. I received this
feedback from one-on-one conversations as well as a Google Forms document I made and shared
with the teachers.
