Comments about volume:

Excellent.
Sometimes the sound on the microphone crackled or cut out so the lecturer had to repeat what she said on
occasion and/or shout a bit so that we could hear her. She did a great job.
No problems!
We could hear the lecturer well, but the lecturer couldn't hear questions, except for those in the first couple of
rows.

Please tell us what you were most satisfied with in this lecture series or workshop.
I knew little about the Bloomsbury group prior to attending this lecture. I enjoyed the fact the lecturer got away
from Virginia Woolf and presented information on other members.
I knew nothing about the modern impressionist novel. I now know a little.
This lecture series was one of the best I have ever attended. Every class was very well prepared and the
presentation was excellent. Comments were encouraged, but were always politely kept on topic. The series
description completely corresponded to the lectures and the lists of recommended and supplementary readings
were very helpful. I would be very interested in attending other series offered by this lecturer. I offer my sincere
thanks to Dr. Marieke Kalkhove for an excellent experience.
The topic and the lecturer was very informative.
The lecturer presented a comprehensive view of the Bloomsbury group. Selected readings were discussed and put
in context.
Marieke Kalkhove is a wonderful lecturer - very knowledgeable and organized, a good presenter whose words and
thoughts flow smoothly. Her material was well researched and made one think. Very thorough, with good visuals.
Her suggested readings were just right. Her own web site with additional information and links was a bonus. Great
personality too. I hope that she will be giving more series in the future.
Thoroughly enjoyed the content and particularly appreciated the reading recommendations which I followed and
which enhanced the learning experience. The structure and content per lecture was just right for the time
available.
Very well researched, organized, and clearly presented.
The material was extremely interesting and the lecturer did a great job of bringing many disparate pieces of
information together from a variety of fields. This was a great series.
The lecturer was knowledgeable and presented well.

Lecturer approach, knowledge, and presentation.

Excellent information and background details about the Bloomsbury Group and their friends.

Lecturer was well prepared and knew the material.

The topic.

The level of scholarliness was perfectly pitched to the class Brava Marieke!
The audio visuals, lecture material, and caliber of the lecturer were top notch. Lectures were structured, well
prepared and the lecturer communicated well with participants.
Lecturer was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subject matter. Lecture outlines and class objectives
were clearly mapped out. Lecturer was very organized and the presentations were wonderfully informative.
Thank you!!
The lecturer was very good. Her Power Point presentation was excellent, very comprehensive, combining good
visuals with the text. It was obvious that she spent considerable time preparing her lectures and presentations.
Great class notes were another positive.
Organization, knowledge level, presentation, and facility of lecturer in all aspects. Her ability to respectfully
acknowledge participants contributions and yet maintain the focus and the timelines of the series were
appreciated.
Excellent, well-prepared, and most insightful.
The professionalism and enthusiasm of the lecturer. She knows her material and contextualized it beautifully - the
six weeks were too short :)
The lectures were extremely well structured and organized. The lecturer was most pleasant to listen to and
treated questions with respect and humour.
The material was very interesting and well presented.
The lecturer's speaking style was very good, and I was impressed by her ability to integrate literature and visual
arts in the series material.
New nothing about the Bloomsbury group and their place in literary development. I have a better understanding
now.
Lecturer’s thorough and broad knowledge of the subject. Her personal presentation manner.

Superbly organized and paced.

General high quality of the lectures and presentation material.

Please tell us what you were least satisfied with in this lecture series or workshop.

No issues.

I was very pleased with everything.

Nothing.
Attempts by some students to side track discussion toward their personal agendas. Handled well by the lecturer,
who directed discussion back to the lecture.
She encouraged class participation and some participants talk too much.
I wish more video was used to keep my attention.
I suppose in the last lecture I would preferred to spend less time on Wynham Lewis and more on Angelica
Garnett, but that's just my own preference.
Nothing. This class is a model for what I hope to get from the Learning in Retirement program.

I was hoping for more emphasis on painting, however there were lots of links offering further information.

Too very bad that the lectures had to end!

I had hoped for more discussion on whether or not Forster was a modernist in style, as well as subject matter.

Nothing
I thought the lecturer could have attempted to engage the class a bit more. Sometimes she said things like 'Does
anyone have any questions' when she could have asked more probing questions to elicit responses e.g. 'Ok, who
here is still afraid of Virginia Wolff?'

If you wish, please provide any additional comments below.

A wonderful topic. Hope there will be one on the postmodern novel.

Excellent lecturer. Excellent series.

Thoroughly enjoyed this series and lecturer.

Lecturer was excellent. One of the best I have had in this program. Enjoyed the series, the readings, and the
videos. Job very well done.
Summary notes on some of the longer literature pieces, provided ahead of the lecture, would have been helpful.
