The objective of this lesson is two-fold. The first is to
differentiate words ending with (s) or (es). The second, is to
match the word with the correct definitions. This Smart
Notebook lesson is designed for Second Grade Elementary
English students in the form of two activities to match these
learning objectives. This lesson will integrate the Whiteboard
Activity into the classroom, by having the students actively
participate in selecting their peers by drawing sticks to approach
the Whiteboard to provide the answers to the two lessons. I will
give the students a colorful answer sheet and hold a container
containing a number for each student. As I walk around and
allow the students to select a stick to determine their turn to
proceed to the Whiteboard. As we will play the game to
determine the plural endings for the words by either writing
them in using their finger or one of the pens in the
Whiteboard tray. I will then ask the class about the choice the
student has made before we mark our final answer. This student
will then pull another stick so that another classmate can go to
the whiteboard, and it will follow through until this activity ends.
We will have a brief discussion to reinforce what we have been
learning about plurals. Then we will continue with the matching
activity in much the same manner. As a class we will also record
our answers on an answer sheet. These activities provide the
opportunity for everyone to participate in at least one of the two
activities designed to use the Whiteboard and to enjoy the
activity as we learn.
