It is an honor to write a letter of recommendation for Matt Fairchild. The purpose of this letter is to
recommend Matt as a candidate for Assistant Principal vacancy at your building. I am writing this letter
through the lens of a colleague, teacher, and a friend.

Mr. Fairchild holds many-strengths that align with what is needed in today’s educational realm. His ability
to work with all types of personalities allows him to not only learn from others, but for his colleagues to
learn from him. I currently sit on a variety of committees with Matt and have witnessed an array of his
leadership skills on a day-to-day basis. The leadership skills and characteristics Matt possesses have
helped Birmingham Public Schools propel into the 21st century.

Education is in the midst of a transformation. Changes have piled up over recent years and the demands
of teachers are becoming more and more substantial. Schools need visionaries, leaders that build
relationships, understand today’s families, and are not afraid to take risks. Matt is that visionary. He
continues to work with his imagination while building a trusting environment advocating for autonomy
and accountability.

His work with our district professional learning communities, Saturday School, R.T.I. initiatives, and
professional development training has helped our district grow leaps and bounds over the course of the
last several years. Specifically, Mr. Fairchild has helped to build the capacity of teachers around him by
leading our Instructional Consultation Team efforts. He has collaborated with several teachers to help
better support individual students by looking at them through the lens of a whole child. This speaks to
who Mr. Fairchild is as an educational leader.
