Early African and American People Groups (1800 BCE - 1500 CE)
DIRECTIONS
2. Read through chapters thirteen (13) and fourteen (14) of your textbook (and
corresponding pages of the in-class study atlas) and choose to study one of the listed
early African groups AND one of the early American groups. The groups you choose
to study must be mentioned in at least one of the paragraphs, maps, special sections,
graphs, etc. The idea is to study a group on which you can actually locate a
significant amount of information. As you proceed on your study, you may have to
switch one or both of your subjects. If you do have to switch, please talk to Mr.
Jelacic. We don’t want too many students doing the same topic. Our study is to cover
the period of time between 1800 BCE – 1500 CE.
3. After choosing your subjects, you will use either online or bound encyclopedias to
gather as much information as possible. Using sources other than encyclopedias is
highly encouraged. You will use the study worksheet for encyclopedias, and, if other
sources are used, you must create a bibliography. Make sure to include book titles,
article titles, author, publisher, publication dates, page numbers, etc. If you can’t find
this information, then the source will not be considered valid.
4. Once you have decided on the African and American groups you will study, complete
ATLEAST one “research worksheet” for the African group and one for the
American group. You will need to complete these worksheets in class and hand them
in with the project.
5. Take notes while you are studying and use your notes to compare and contrast (show
similarities and differences between) the PEGGS of your African and American
groups. You will create a finished table to help you create an analysis comparing and
contrasting your two groups. Use the table worksheet provided in class.
6. Write an essay comparing and contrasting your two groups. You should use three of
your PEGGS as your units of analysis. Remember your thesis should have three
topics in it, with the rest of your essay giving details for each topic you presented.
