K 224: Teaching of Dance Lesson Plan

TARGET AUDIENCE/GRADE: Middle School

NAME OF DANCE: Fitness!!

NATIONAL PE STANDARDS

 S1. M1.6 Demonstrates correct rhythm and pattern for one of the following dance forms:
folk, social, creative, line or world dance
 S2. M12.6 Varies application of forces during dance or gymnastic activities
 S3.M3.6 Participates in a variety of aerobic fitness activities such as cardio kick-steps
and aerobic dance

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

FUNDAMENTAL and/or DANCE MOVEMENTS: 1/2 turn, levels, stomps

Locomotor movements-walk, jump, squat

Non-locomotor movements- punches, lunges, squats, stretches

SOCAL OR ACADEMIC FOCUS:

 Follow directions from teacher

 Gets heart rate up

 Has fun while exercising

 Students understand there are other forms of exercise

EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

 iPod/Phone

MUSIC:

 Warm up: The Middle- Zedd

 Song: Everytime We Touch- Cascada


 Cool down: These Days- Rudimental, Jesse Glynne, Macklemore

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS:

 Be aware of personal space


 Be aware of others moving around you
 Punches are only meant for the air. We do not punch other students.

ORGANIZATION OF STUDENTS:

 Scatter students around gym


 Students will use personal space to move around and get their heart rates up

DIRECTIONS:

Warm Up: The Middle

 Step and Clap 16 count


 Pull rope 16 count
 Circle around clockwise with hips: 12 count
 Circle around counter clockwise with hips: 12 count
 Football run
 Squat ad lean and roll shoulders back (12 count)
 Arm circles (back stroke) slow 16 count

Verse 1

 Squat arms up and inhale 6 count


 Side lunge and reach to side 8 count (4 each side)
