1.

Determine the maximum deformation and axial stress


that occur when a truss is loaded as shown below. The
truss is fully constrained at the one end; while the
other end is constrained in y-direction. Load of 160N,
170N, 180N & 200N act at points as shown. The truss
is made of A36 steel with a Young’s modulus of 2e5
and Poisson’s ratio of 0.33.Take section of the link as
8 x 25 mm.
2. Determine the Von mises stress and the maximum
deformation that occur when a steel plate with holes is
loaded as shown below. The plate is constrained in y
direction at bottom section and distributed load of 20 N
pulling in the y-direction. The plate is made of steel
with a Young’s modulus of 20e4 N/mm2 and Poisson’s
ratio of 0.3.
3.Determine the Von mises stress and the maximum
deformation that occur when a structural static
analysis is done in a corner angle bracket. The
upper left-hand pin hole is welded around its entire
circumference and a tapered pressure load is
applied to the bottom of the lower right-hand pin
hole as shown below. The plate is made of steel
with a Young’s modulus of 20e4 N/mm2 and
Poisson’s ratio of 0.26.

4.A closed cylinder made of steel, having E=2x10 5
N/mm2 and Poisson’s ratio of 0.3 is subjected to an
internal pressure of 1 MPa as shown in figure.

beam with a point load of 200N is acting
downward at midpoint of the span. Take Young’s

8 x 10 mm is used. The beam with a point load of
310N is acting downward at mid point of the span.
Take Young’s modulus as 196 GPa and Poisson’s
ratio as 0.27.

7.Determine the maximum deformation, shear force


and bending moment when a cantilever beam of
100 x 5 x 15 mm is used. The beam with a point
load of 100N is acting downward at end of the
span. Take Young’s modulus as 13100 M Pa and
Poisson’s ratio as 0.29.
8.A composite truss is shown below. The Young’s
modulus for all vertical and horizontal members is
2 х105 N/mm2 and for the inclined member is 1.8
х 105 N/mm2. Find out the deformation, axial
stress and reaction forces acting on the composite
truss.
9.Using ANSYS find out the temperature
distribution of a rectangular fin when steady state
heat conduction takes place at ambient
temperature of 1000C.The fin size is 10 x 2 x 1 m.
A temperature of 5000 C is admitted on the left
side of the fin with conductivity 80 W / m 0C

0.29 and density of 470 kg/m3.

frequencies of a fixed beam of circular section
having 100 x 8 mm. Take Young’s modulus as 183
GPa Poisson’s ratio as 0.25 and density of 7750
kg/m3.

14. Determine the at least six mode shapes and


frequencies of a square cantilever beam of 100 x 7
mm. Take Young’s modulus as 235 GPa Poisson’s
ratio as 0.313 and density of 8269 kg/m3.

15. A beam of circular cross section having a


diameter of 50mm is supported at each end and
carries two concentrated torques at B & C as
shown. Modulus of elasticity and rigidity for the
beam are E=2x105 N/mm2 and G=70000N/mm2
respectively. Determine the maximum angle of
twist.

16. Determine the displacement and stress fields in


an electronic device containing a silicon die (chip),
epoxy die-attach substrate, and a molding
compound as shown in fig. The device is subjected
to a uniform temperature increase of 30°C. A
common cause of failure in electronic devices is
the thermal stresses at elevated temperatures
caused by a coefficient of thermal expansion
