Automatic Update
of the Programs
Version 12.0
The manual and the program have been thoroughly checked for errors. However,
SOFiSTiK does not claim that either one is completely error free. Errors and omissions
are corrected as soon as they are detected.
The user of the program is solely responsible for the applications. We strongly
encourage the user to test the correctness of all calculations at least by random
sampling.

Update SONAR
The new versions of the programs are available on the FTP Server (ftp.sofis-
tik.de), which can be accessed by maintenance clients by means of a pass-
word. Here you are able to download the latest program packages (.zip for
Windows,*.tgz for Linux), which can then be unzipped in your SOFiSTiK di-
rectory. This procedure is automated by the program SONAR. SONAR is also
able to show you the latest changes made to the programs.

In the first window (see Fig. 1) you have to specify the path for your SOFiSTiK
installation (Structural Analysis Programs) and if needed also for your SOFi-
PLUS/SOFiCAD installation. If you have more than one SOFiSTiK directory,
choose one of them. In case of doubt leave the default setting. If for example
a SOFiPLUS installation was found, but you are not interested in an update,
then just disable this option.
Additionally you have the choice to download your license file directly from
our downloadserver. To do so you must click on the check box "Install license
file from Downloadserver".
Notice: The download of the license file will be realized with a secure connec-
tion (HTTPS). If you are using a proxy server, please make sure that the proxy

In step 2 (see Fig. 2) a lot of setting can be made for the downloading pro-
cedure.
Manual Update:
In step 3, this will list all your modules, with version number, and also
the newest versions on the server. You then have to decide which mod-
ules should be updated.
Version 12.0 −3
SONAR Update
Automatic Update:
This will automatically update all modules for which are a newer ver-
sions are available.
Download Directory:
This is the temporary directory to which SONAR will save all the pack-
ages (e.g. ase.zip) from the server, which are then immediately un-
zipped to the SOFiSTiK directory. If you have not selected Packages
remain in the download directory (default behaviour), then they
will be removed automatically after having been unzipped.
If you also want to download the manuals (for structural analysis in .pdf for-
mat) you can select from the following options:
Only download:
If you have made your own comments into the sofistik manuals, you
probably don’t want that they will be lost through an update. For that,
you can select this option so that the manuals will only be downloaded
into the download directory (without transfer into the sofistik direc-
tory). After closing SONAR, you can import the comments into the new
manual (with the appropriate Adobe Plugin) and copy it to the SOFi-
STiK directory.
At the bottom of the window you have to enter the right password, because
you are not able to access the downloadserver without it.

If you get an error message at step 3, then you should refer to the section
"SONAR Troubleshooting − what should I do?". If no error is given you will
see a window (Fig. 3) which lists the existing to the newest versions. Mark all
modules which you want to update (as a default the newer versions are se-
lected already). For information on the changes made to the newer versions,
click the right mouse button on the modules name and choose the option "See
ChangeLog". After a short time you can then see the changes in an extra win-
dow.
Version 12.0 −5
SONAR Update
With this option you can download builds which aren’t officially re-
leased. SONAR will mark these modules in red to signalize that the use
is at your risk.
At the last step a protocol is given on the download and update progress. If
you get an error message like in Fig. 4, then the program which you want to
update is still in use (or also a library file, *.dll). Close this application (here:
TEDDY) and press Retry on the message dialogue. If you are unable to close
it, press Ignore. When your protocol writes Update finished you can press
the Finish button. All your settings will be saved and reloaded at the next
time.
Fig. 4
The most likely case is that you get an error message when you reach step 3
and/or you can’t see the table with its modules. This indicates that a connec-
tion to the downloadserver cannot be established. Please check the following
things.

As long as you don’t contact your network admin, please don’t ask our hotline,
because we don’t have any possibility to change your network settings.
If you check all points and the problem remains, feel free to contact our hot-
line.
Version 12.0 −7
SONAR Update
At Linux you can enforce a graphical front end with a capital "−M", which is
automatically shown at Windows. With an "−m" you get a command line ver-
sion at Linux, which can be useful if you download with a shell.
You can set following bit values. If you don’t set any Bit−Pattern, the complete
server will be mirrored.
