The general topics below, which appear in our syllabus/Programme for B2 (consult our web page
www.eoidna.es for specific word lists), have been subdivided into more specific topics to help your
students develop their linguistic competence in the four skills. The listing of subtopics is not intended
to be comprehensive, but we hope it will serve as a guideline towards their advancement and
preparation for the final examinations.
1. PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION
Vocabulary related to: name; address; telephone; date and place of birth; age; sex; marital status;
origin and nationality; occupation; family; religion; likes and dislikes; personality; physical
appearance.
Subtopics:
• Finding out about / Enquiring about / Describing a person in detail
2. HOUSE, HOME AND SURROUNDINGS
Vocabulary related to accommodation: types of houses; rooms; furniture; services and ammenities;
household articles and appliances; geographical features; cost.
Subtopics:
• Finding out about / Enquiring about / Describing a person's residence in detail
• An ideal place to live in
• Advantages and/or disadvantages of living in a certain place
3. EVERYDAY LIFE – DAILY ROUTINES
Vocabulary related to people's activities: at home; at school (see also no. 8); at work.
Subtopics:
• Finding out about / Enquiring about / Describing a person's daily routine in detail
• Discussing one's degree of satisfaction with their daily routine
4. FREE TIME AND LEISURE
Vocabulary related to: leisure; intellectual and artistic pursuits; getting informed; entertainment;
sports and games.
Subtopics:
• Finding out about / Enquiring about / Describing a person's leisure activities in detail
• Activities/preferences and reasons for choosing them
B2 TOPICS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SKILL COMPETENCE
• Getting informed: pros and cons of using each of the mass media
• Personal development: combining physical activities with intellectual/artistic ones
• Physical activities versus sedentary ones
5. TRAVELLING
Vocabulary related to: public and private transport; traffic; holiday travel; luggage; accommodation;
travel documents; entering and leaving a country.
Subtopics:
• Finding out about / Enquiring about / Describing a person's travelling experience
• An ideal place to go on holiday
• Advantages and/or disadvantages of using a particular means of transport
• A memorable travelling experience
• Personal development: the benefits of travelling
• Traffic inside and outside the town: possible problems or difficulties
• Making holiday arrangements: booking a hotel room, packing up, getting documents ready
6. HUMAN AND SOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS
Vocabulary related to: friendship; sentimental partnership; feelings; invitations; correspondence.
Subtopics:
• Finding out about / Enquiring about / Describing a person's social relationships in detail
• The ideal partner/friend
• Ways of contacting people / keeping in contact with people: description, and pros and cons
of each option
• Different types of sentimental partnership: description, attitudes and opinions
7. HEALTH AND PERSONAL CARE
Vocabulary related to: parts of the body; physical sensations and needs; hygiene; ailments and
accidents; habits; medical services; insurance.

12. LANGUAGE

• Strategies used when learning a second/foreign language
• Advantages of learning a language in the country where it is spoken
• Comparing two languages: easier/more difficult aspects of each
• Reasons for learning a second/foreign language. Importance of each skill.
13. COMMUNICATION

Subtopics:

• Written communication versus spoken communication: pros and cons

14. WEATHER CONDITIONS / THE ENVIRONMENT

16. POLITICS AND SOCIETY
Vocabulary related to: government and politics; crime and justice; war and peace; social affairs.
Subtopics:
• Finding out about / Enquiring about / Describing a person's political attitudes and opinions
in some detail
• The past and the present of warfare: comparing the weapons used
• Describing a country's (ideal) political regime
• Crime and punishment: how criminals are treated versus how they should be treated
17. GENDER EQUALITY AND EQUITY
Vocabulary related to: gender; gender‐related issues.
Subtopics:

detail
• Comparing the roles of men and women in different countries/cultures
• Differences between our grandparents, our parents and us
• Gender/Domestic violence: a present day issue? Perpetrators and victims.
• Gender/Domestic violence: only a governmental issue? Can we do something about it
personally?
