JANUMET

Dosage/Route: 50 mg sitagliptin/500 mg

Indication: indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults
with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both sitagliptin and metformin is appropriate.

Classification: antihyperglycemic, antidiabetic

AUGMENTIN

Indication:

Action: Prevents bacterial cell- wall synthesis during replication. Increases amoxicillin
effectiveness by deactivating beta -lactamases, which destroy amoxicillin.

R: P.O

Nursing Considerations:

Before giving drug, ask patient about allergic reactions to penicillin. However, a negative
history of penicillin allergy is no guarantee against an allergic reactions.
Give drug at least 1 hour before bacteriostic antibiotic.
Augmentin XR isn’t indicated for treating infections caused by S. Pneumonia.

CLOPIDROGEL R.O/ P.O

PLAVIX

Indication: To reduce thrombotic events in patients with atherosclerosis documented by


recent CVA ml, or peripheral arterial disease.
Action:

Inhibibits the binding of adenosine diphosphate ADP to its platelet receptor, impeding
ADP- medicated activation and subsequent platelet aggregation.clopidrogel
irreversibly modifies the platelet ADP receptor.

Nursing Consideration:

Platelet aggregation won’t return to normal for at least 5 days after during has been
stopped.
Don’t confuse Plavix with Paxil

METFORMIN

Route: P.O

Classification: Antidiabetic

Indication: Anjunct to diet to lower glucose level in patient with type 2 ( non- insulin-
dependent) diabetes.

Action:

Decreases hepatic glucose production and intestinal absorption of glucose and


improves insulin sensitivity ( increase peripheral glucose uptake and use)

Nursing Considerations:

Give with meals; give once daily dosage and with breakfast and twice daily dosage with
breakfast and dinner. Maximum doses may be better tolerated if total dose is
divided into t.i.d dosing and given with meals.
Monitor patient’s glucose level regularly to evaluate effectiveness of therapy. Notify
prescriber if glucose level increases despite therapy.
Before therapy begins and at least annually, thereafter, assess patient’s renal function. If
renal impairment is detected, expect prescriber to switch patient to a different
antidiabetic. This is particularly important in elderly patient.

PARACETAMOL ( ACETAMINOPHEN )

Classification:Analgesic

Indication: Mild pain, Fever

MOA: Unknown. Thought to produce analgesia by blocking pain impulses by inhibiting


synthesis of prostaglandin in the CNS or of other substances that synthesize pain
receptors to stimulation. The drug may relieve fever through central action in the
hypothalamic heat-regulating center.
Nursing Consideration:

Alert: many OTC and prescription products contain acetaminophen; be aware of this
when calculating total daily dose.
Use liquid form for children and patients who have difficulty swallowing.
