 CC.3.1.K.C3- Describe changes that occur as a result of climate.

Learning Targets/Objectives:
● Students will be able to identify a diurnal animal by creating a book that displays some
characteristics and behaviors of diurnal animals
● Students will be able to identify and classify diurnal animals by circling the diurnal
animals from a group of diurnal and nocturnal animals
● The 1st grade student will be able to classify nocturnal animals by organizing pictures
of 3-5 animals in a nighttime worksheet. The student will also name two physical
characteristics of nocturnal animals
● Students will be able to identify what the forest looks like in winter, spring, summer
and fall by completing a 3d tree fact sheet
● The 1st grade student will be able to select one full outfit, two food items, and one
drink according to the season’s climate by creating a paper person wearing appropriate
clothing, with appropriate food, and drink from their selected season

Introduction/Activating/Launch Strategies:
● Teacher will tell the students that they are going to play a game to help them review
what we have learned about the forest. The team that wins will get to choose a fun
activity for the class to do after the test.
Development/Teaching Approaches
● Teacher will divide the classroom into four teams randomly.
● Once the groups are in teams teacher will explain the rules of the game
○ Each group will get to answer a question and if they get it right they will gain a
point for their team
○ Teams need to stay quiet while other group are taking
○ Teams need to discuss the answers to the questions together before an answer is
given.
○ Each team can only give one answer
○ Each team member must answer one question
● Teacher will have the teams pick a color as a team name.
● Teacher will tell students that they must show good sportsmanship which means that
they need to be nice to each other and respectful at all times especially if someone does
not get the wrong answer
● Once the teams are ready to go teachers will display a question on the board and have
teams discuss the answer
○ Teacher will give each team a chance to answer a question
○ If the team does not answer the question correct the next team will have a
chance to answer
● Teacher will do this until the all questions are done
● Once all the question are done teacher will add up the points and congratulate the
winner and give all the students praise for doing a good job during the game
● Teacher will ask the winning team what they want to do after the test.
○ Teacher will tell the students they can pick from the following items
■ Have a dance party
■ Have in door recess
■ Play with classroom toys
Closure/Summarizing Strategies:
● To close the lesson teacher will ask student to write on a paper a question they still
have about the forest
● Teacher will read the questions and answer them for the whole class

Accommodations/Differentiation:
● Make sure that groups are mixed between low and high kids
● Separate ELL students into different groups
● Separate students with behavioral needs
