 Content
o Define word and explain its function.
o Draw a picture as accurate as you can.
o Color and label pieces of cell.
o Cite which page in the textbook next to the word so you can find any extra
information on this cell to refer to and help you understand more.
 Organization
o Do not write outside of the box.
o Must be neat and well written.
o If it helps, use color coordination, underlining, or highlight. Remember, this may
be for a grade, but this sheet is to help you learn and absorb this topic.
o Write your name, date, and period in the right hand corner.
 Grammar
o Make sure to spell every word correctly so the spelling is carved in your brain for
the quiz.
o Use complete sentences when defining and explaining functions.

Virtual Manipulative: How do Animal and Plant Cells Work

Possible Questions:

What are cells?


Can you describe what’s inside a cell?
What are two types of cells you have heard about?
How do plant cells differ from animal cells?
Beginning of the Lesson:

Introduce the lesson by showing a video.

Middle of the Lesson:

Introduce the Power Point. Students should be taking notes. Students will open their email to
access the virtual field trip. Students will complete virtual field trip then will also access the
Sheppards software cell game.
End of the Lesson:

An organelle worksheet will be handed out to students. Students will complete the organelle
worksheet to be graded. They will be able to refer back to the PowerPoint, virtual field trip or
game to complete worksheet. There is a cell functions worksheet checklist. After the completion
of the worksheet students will open their canvas again and access the sheppards software link.
This software includes the game and quiz. Students will complete the quiz. For review of the
plant and animal cells we will ask questions to see what students learned.

Accommodation/Modification for ESOL:

Teachers can pair ELL's with native speakers. Native English speakers in such pairings
should be reminded to not "give answers," but to explain what is going on and to be
patient with their partner whose understanding of the language and content may be
very different from theirs.
Accommodation/Modification for ASD/SLD:

For students with special needs, the teacher may fill in 2 to 3 boxes with the student.
The teacher will repeat or rephrase directions as necessary. For ELL's: The teacher can
provide visual aids to convey the standard.
