Course Description:
As a continuation course for Everyday French, this course continues to present basic communications in French covering
the various places at school-administration block, classrooms, people we meet at school, the various places at home – the
compound, the kitchen members of the household - brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, etc, types of professions - banking,
teaching, nursing, etc, various places of the work place - the office, the board/conference room, etc

Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Speak French correctly and confidently to express themselves in specific situations
2. Read texts and documents in basic French, for example student or public notices and warnings, road signs and
directions
3. Write simple French like text messages and e-mails
Course Content
Item Topic
1. Discussion of 1st semester examinations
2. At School: The various places and activities at school – administration
block, classrooms/lecture hall, laboratory, canteen, library, bookshop, etc
3. The various people we meet at school – teachers/lecturers, administrative
authorities, librarians, cleaners, etc
4. Dialogues and Dramatization: Group work (writing out dialogues) and
dramatization – e.g. Teacher and student; student and librarian
5. The various members of the household – relatives (brothers, sisters,
cousins, nieces, in-laws, uncles etc), domestic servants, pets, tenants, etc
6. Mid-Semester Examination
7. Dialogues and Dramatization:Group work – preparation of dialogues and
dramatization of family life e.g. Parents and children; siblings
8. Types of professions: Banking, teaching, nursing, driving, fitting, farming
etc. Description of profession, Places of work
9. Dialogues and Dramatization: Group work – dramatization of work of
various professions
10. Reading of passages and oral comprehension/discussions
11. Reading of passages and oral comprehension/discussions

Teaching Approach
The communicative approach is recommended for the items in the course outline. Grammatical structures and items will
be discovered and appropriated as they occur, for example simple tenses and numerals. This means that explicit or
traditional grammar will be reduced to the minimum. Students will be encouraged to participate actively in class
activities. At the end of a lesson on professions, for example, learners should be able to talk freely about their future
professions. On sports, they should be able to talk about their favorite sports, teams and players.

Learners will be evaluated as follows:
1. Quiz 20%
2. Mid-semester exams 20%
3. End of Semester Examinations 60%
4. Total 100%
