BIOGRAPHY
I decided to do my project on my youngest sister. Natalie is fifteen years old. She was born in
Las Vegas, Nevada. Natalie was born on October 15, 2000 she weighted 8lbs and 6 ounces. She
has four sisters and one brother. She comes from a family of middle class Hispanics. When she
was smaller she used to be a lot happier and active. As she got older her dad got deported and it
triggered her to be a bit harsher with people. She is currently a freshman at Sunrise Mountain
High School. Natalie is a smart student and she is currently enrolled in AP and honor classes.
She loves school and she does not really like to be absent. She has a lot of friends at school and
she gets along with most people that she meets. Her personality is a bit like mines she is very
reserved but she is also not afraid to speak up. She can be mean when you hurt her feelings or do
something bad to her. Natalie is more of a tomboy; she does not like to dress girly at all. She also
did not like to go to parties with her friend. When she was in middle school she joined a soccer
team and after a month of playing she got out of it. Her mother did not have enough money to
buy the uniforms and pay every week when they would play games. When she got out of the
team she kind became a couch potato. She ate junk food and did not exercise. I did notice that
she would feel insecure about herself and sometimes she would cry when she saw that clothes
would not fit her. During one of her doctor check ups she was told that she was overweight at the
age of 14th. Her doctor sent her off with a specialist who recommended her a food diet. She was
put in a program where she would go work out with other kids 3 times a week and apart from
that she would go walk everyday after school with her mother. She lost a few pounds. Now she

goes to walk around the neighborhood at least 3 times a week. She will go outside and she plays
soccer or tag with her neighbors. She is now more secure about her self and I can say that I have
seen her selfesteem grow.

PHYSICAL
Natalie is 15 years old her height is 5’5 and she weights 195lbs. Her birth weight was 8lbs 4
inches. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Natalie is Obese and is more
likely to have health related problems because of her weight. Natalie does not have any health
issues. She does not wear glasses. She has never had really big health issues. In the Diet Health
Club website it shows me that Natalie has a BMI of 32 which is very high.
My mom started taking her to a different physician at the age of 13 when they had told her that
she was overweight. Natalie would not exercise. She would spend most of her time at home on
the computer or watching television. Also one of the things that triggered her weight gain was
eating a lot of fast food. She would eat fast food, chips and candies almost everyday. Her
physician had told her that if she did not take care of herself, if she did not get on a diet soon she
would get diabetes. She needed to lose weight. According to calculator.net based on the
Robinson formula of 1983, Natalie’s ideal weight should be 126.8.
At the age of 15 I have noticed a change in Natalie she has decided to eat much healthier. She
walks 3 times of the week and she has actually tried to join sports. She goes outside to play
soccer or tag with her friends. She has become more active then she was before. She has lost
some weight ever since then but not as fast as she wants. She has been having a little bit of
difficulty to lose weight.
At the moment Natalie is not interested in boys she likes to hang out with her friends and
cousins.
Critical Thinking 5
EMOTIONAL
According to Child Development info Natalie should be on stage 5, which is the Learning ability
versus identity diffusion. I don’t think Natalie has quiet identify who she is. She is still trying do
decide as to what she will do in the future. According to Slavin this is the stage where she should
decide as to what she will do in the future. Natalie says that she will get job while she is in
school to make extra money for her things. She thinks that it is easy to work and go to school but
its not easy. She has said in the past that she wanted to go to college to be a doctor but she has
changed it many times.
From analyzing her I have seen that she does not really know what she wants to do in the future.
She has talked about boys and liking them but not in a sexual way. She is more interested and
believes more in having the romantic love story that we see in movies. I have seen her get
embarrassed sometimes when it comes to boys flirting with. I think that she doesn’t believe that
she could be with a boy right now because of her physical aspect.
She still acts a little immature when it comes to talking about sex. She has not been interested in
talking about having a sexual partner. Natalie has a very big attitude when it comes to her talking
to boys. She is mean to them and she cannot stand them.
According to ChildEncyclopedia adolescents ages 13 and over are aware about their emotional
cycles. Natalie understands that she should apologize when she is wrong. When she gets angry
she explodes and she sometimes feels guilty about it. Natalie holds grudges when you treat her
bad or betray her she is not easy to forgive. She will hold onto everything you did to her and she
Critical Thinking 6
will not talk to you for days until you apologize. She’s not really the type of girl to talk about her
emotions or problems she is more reserved.
Critical Thinking 7
PHILOSOPHICAL
According to Slavin, Natalie is at stage 3 of Kohlberg’s stages of moral reasoning, which is
“Good boyGood Girl”. At this stage she knows what is right from wrong and she knows how to
put herself in others shoes. She thinks twice before doing something that will hurt others. She no
longer wants to be like her other friends. She wants to be her own self. Natalie is very respectful
and even though she has a big attitude she has a kind heart. At home she is a different person
from what she is with others outside her home. She is very nice and understanding when it comes
to strangers. Children in stage 3 are good so that they can be approving by others
(Simplypsychology.org).
Her teachers see Natalie as a great student. She does well in her classroom and work. With her
friends she will treat them good buy them gifts for their birthdays.
According to Pegasus, students want to be socially acceptable therefore they could be peer
pressured by other peers to do bad things. Now that Natalie is in high school her peers have tried
to pressure her into doing bad things like ditching her class to help in another classroom. Luckily
Natalie understands that it’s not right to do that so she does not do it.
Critical Thinking 8
SOCIAL
According to Simply Psychology Natalie is about where she is supposed to be. She is at that
stage where she does not know where she wants to be. She wants to become independent by get
a job while she is in school. She wants to go out with her friends and do what her friends do.
Erickson describes how the child wants to belong to a society and fit in. Natalie has followed
trends with her friends. She has done a couple of the challenges that teenagers are doing now and
days. They record themselves either lip singing or dancing and they post it online to receive
attention. Slavin explains in Erickson’s theory how kids will try to experiment with different
lifestyles. Natalie is actually in the process of getting a job at school because she wants to join
her friends. She also wants to make her own money to buy herself a cellphone to talk with
friends. In the past Natalie has joined Orchestra clubs in school because she taught she would
like it. She has also joined other clubs and groups in the past and she has made a lot of friends
who have influenced some of the emotions and attitudes that she has had. In the past my mom
has encouraged her to continue doing orchestra even though Natalie did not like it. She rebelled
against my mom and said she was embarrassed. She did not want her friends to see her playing at
the concerts. She has told her mom that she was not going to perform or attend the class because
she did not like it. Natalie decided to join a soccer team now so that she could spend more time
with her friends.
Critical Thinking 9
INTELLECTUAL
According to WebMD, children are able to use symbols related to abstract concepts. Natalie is at
the right level and maybe a bit higher. She is a very smart student. She is currently taking AP and
Honor classes at her high school. After middle school her teachers recommended for her to go to
a Magnet school. She did not take up the opportunity because like every other kid in school they
rather be at a school where they already know and have friends instead of going somewhere new
with new people. Since she was little she always had good grades and she has always won
awards for straight A’s in elementary school. In middle school she always got chosen student of
the month. Natalie is smart and at home she is always seen doing her homework. She likes to do
it right when she gets out of class. She does not like to leave it last minute. According to Slavin
Natalie is at the formal operational stage in Piaget’s development. She is able to solve
hypothetical or potential situations. Natalie has begun to think like an adult. When it comes to
something that she cannot do she will stay on that problem until she finds a solution, whether it
being her homework or just a problem at home. Natalie is able to compare different relationships
as said in Slavin. She has seen beyond what is written on a piece of paper and she can go out of
the box to resolve a problem.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Physical
I would recommend that the child should join a sport to become more active. Natalie
should increase her walking to 5 times a day at least for an hour. She should try to
continue not to eat so much junk food and fast food. Natalie should start eating smaller
healthier portions.
Emotional
Natalie should try to control her emotions. She should try to talk more about her emotions
and what she is feeling with maybe her parents, sisters, friends or a counselor. She should
be a little more understanding and forgiving.
Philosophical
Natalie should continue to think about her future. She should maybe consider joining
clubs at school. These clubs could help her decide as to what she wants to do with her
future.
Social
Natalie should continue to be respectful. She should try to get peoples approval by being
good and helping others. She shouldn’t let her friends influence her decisions. Natalie is
good at saying no when someone is trying to peer pressure her she should continue that.
Critical Thinking 12
Intellectual
Natalie is doing great in school. She should keep it up and continue to try hard in school.
She has excellent grades. She should continue taking these higher classes.
