Founded in July 2015 by Catherine Roth, Olivia Sabee, and Niko
Sommaripa, Agora Dance facilitates artistic exchange and
presents contemporary work by emerging and established
choreographers. Agora Dance presents in both traditional and
unconventional performance spaces in order to engage more
deeply with a range of communities. Since its launch, the
company has commissioned works from more than 15
choreographers and performed at Dance Place,
Sidney Harman Hall, and Swarthmore College in Swarthmore,
Pennsylvania, as well as in public parks, libraries, and cafes
across Washington, D.C.
Agora Dance on the Millennium Stage was supported by the
DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, which receives support
from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Wedding Guest was
made possible by funding from Project Stream, a grant initiative of the
Pennsylvania Council on the Arts that is regionally administered by the
Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. Additional support for Project Stream is
provided by PECO.
