TOP FIVE LEADERS 2017 (by votes)

1. VSSUT Student Satellite, Apurwa Masook, Sambalpur, Odisha, India

Till date very little has been reported about the issues of Hirakud Dam. Increasing deterioration of soil in
the catchments is causing erosion of the subsoil, resulting in Sedimentation and Siltation, Largescale water-
logging, seepage and unscientific water distribution system are only a few to name. In addition, the Flood
control objective of the dam conflicts with the other objectives of irrigation and hydel power generation.

Various Research and Reports

suggest that 43 percent of silt was
assumed to be annually trapped in
the reservoir. This has led to loss of
the live storage capacity at an
annual rate of 0.4 per cent from the
beginning of impoundment in 1956.

As an obligation of the technical

university, towards the Mahanadi
River Valley, and Due to the
unavailability of relevant data,
through this project the aim is to
provide most precise and highly
accurate data to the concerned
authorities who can take necessary
steps for the better upkeep of the
dam as well as the communities
involved.

The survey would be carried out

using a Sounding Rocket designed
and indigenously developed in the
Idea Lab of VSSUT, Burla. The
satellite will be carrying a CubeSat
payload of well equipped with ultra-
modern technologies.

Once the CubeSat is deployed at

the apogee, it will be monitoring the
real time scenario of the world famous Hirakud dam. The dynamic scanning system would provide the base
station with the real time raw data of the entire study area.
We aim to build, launch, test and recover indigenously developed Launch Vehicles and Prototype Satellites.

2. Hoisting Device Combined With the Hydraulic Dump System of the Pick-up Bed of Pick-up,
Shailesh Parkhe, Chandwad, Maharashtra, India

Present invention in general relates to design and implement a mechanical device for modern pick-up
mechanism utilizing hydraulic system and in particular to design a hoisting device that is hydraulic dump
system of the pick-up bed.

Unloading of the regular pick-up is not easy, time consuming and labour requirement is necessary, which
is both slow and exhausting. In tractor-trolley we do not get speed, average, compact size and long distance
travelling is not economical. This project was motivated by a need to create a device that would cause a
pick-up bed to lift up quickly and dump its contents, eliminating the need to use labour, which is both slow
and exhausting. This device will be incorporated into a pick-up bed hoisting system and be engineered to
lift up the surface of the dump bed to an angle sufficient to empty the contents consisting of dirt, rock, grass,
wood or similar materials. The intended use for this device would be in a farm or similar setting where a
minimal labour force is available. The majority of the effort for the individual will be in the design and analysis
of the chassis and selection of the appropriate hydraulic system and also it‘s mounting on pick-up. This will
be the most critical part of the system. There will also be considerable effort in the machining and assembly
necessary in the construction of the device. This project will consist of three areas, design, manufacturing
and analysis.

This problem presents several engineering challenges and opportunities for the optimization of the device.
The main engineering challenge consists of
creating a design that uses a cylinder that
achieves the necessary tilt and lift to unload
a dump bed, while maintaining a lower cost
to produce. Therefore the device will be
optimized for cost and size using a smaller
cylinder for the lift, because commercially
available lifts are expensive and larger than
what‘s required or needed for this
application.

The main objectives of the invention are to

provide a hoisting device that is used in
combination with the hydraulic dump system of the pick-up bed. The function of the mechanical device is
to lift and tilt a dump bed that facilitates the unloading of various materials. The constructional features and
the functioning aspects are included in the project report to get the complete insight of the topic. The subject
helps in understanding the hydraulic system, fabrication and the working procedures thoroughly and neatly.
The report also includes the applicational features for the dumped pick-up bed hoisting system. The subject
gives the advantages of the dumped pick-up bed hoisting system over the conventional techniques and
also brings the limitations of the conventional techniques in the picture.

Present invention is to design a device that is inexpensive to construct, economical to maintain and efficient
in operation. It is to make use in domestic purpose also handling, repairing and replacement of parts of the
mechanism is easy.

3. MEDDIAR-A Medical Diary, Mayank Talwar, Gurgaon, Haryana, India

This project aims to provide an effective and easier way to access history of medical prescriptions by
patients with minimum effort. It has the following advantages:

– Ease of viewing the history of medical prescription.

– Very reliable (can receive messages even if the app is not on).

– Records prescription history.

The nearest app we can

think of is Practo application
but it does not have any
features of storing
prescription it can only fix
appointment with doctor.
Our project is a novel
approach which will create
an efficient method for
storing the prescription
details for reference in
future. It helps the patients
to view their medications
anytime, anywhere through
your phone. This project
provides an easy and
effective mechanism to keep track of our medication.. Patient store the history of various prescriptions and
can use in future for reference.

The layout of the app contains links to admin’s, doctors’ and patients login panel. There are three user
levels assigned they are 1. Administrator 2. Doctor 3. Users or patients with their respective Aadhar card
number or Username and password is verified with the database. If both are correct and if it is the
administrator who has logged in then he can add new doctors with their details. The doctor has the privilege
to view the patient details and enter the details of the prescription of each patient into the Meddiar app. He
can also update the prescription for new medicines. After the prescription details are filled by the doctor
into the Meddiar app it is send to a Meddiar app, installed in the patients phone, using Google cloud
messaging(GCM). The patient can view the prescription details, stored in the app, whenever he wants.

A app/software has been developed for entering the prescription details which is sent to the Meddiar
App/software present in the patient’s phone using Google Cloud Messaging. Two people have access to
the App/Software – Admin, Doctor. They can access the website by logging in using their respective Aadhar
card number/username and password. A feature will also be included which will enable the patient to
interact with doctor, in case the patient needs immediate consultation or attention.

4. Future Dustbin, Nilaabh Gugale, Tilekar Nagar, Kondhwa Budruk, Pune, Maharashtra, India

Today the world's population continues to grow, so does the amount of garbage that people produce.
Today's fast lifestyle requires easily disposable products as soda cans or bottles of water etc. The
accumulation of these products has led to increased plastic pollution around the world. Plastic is composed
of major toxic products has the potential to cause a great harm to the environment in the form of air & land
pollution. Some plastics are manufactured from recycled material but their use in engineering tends to be
limited because the consistency of formulate & their physical properties tend to be less consistent.
1928,10,97,05,389 number of
plastic bags are produced
worldwide every year. We use 5
trillion plastics per year that's
16000 a second & over 700 a
year for every single person on
the planet. We can do better than
that. 81,75,48,489 tons of waste
is dumped in oceans every year.
Most plastic bags are simply
thrown out less than one percent
are recycled. Our research is
about reducing these harmful
effects on environment occurred
due to dumping of plastic
garbage in soil or burning of
plastic in open atmosphere. In
our dustbin heating of plastic
garbage is done by using solar
energy & plastic is reused.

The top of dustbin is made up of concentrating glass in order to collect the solar rays at one point & then
heating of plastic. The heating of plastic converts the plastic in liquid form & then this liquid plastic is poured
in molds & then plastic cubes & balls are made which are then used in many industrial applications.

In order to reduce the amount of pollution made by gasses formed while heating of plastic is eliminated by
use of Gas Separator by use of Gas Separator gasses are separated & then these gasses having different
densities are collected in different cylinders using different pipes.

Finally our project is about reusing the plastic by heating & molding as well as to reduce the pollution.

5. Netmory, Mikhael Lerman, San Jose, California United States

Netmory is a new computer architecture with multiple benefits. This architecture is different from all current
computers. Today's computers inherit the architecture from the Von Neuman machine built in 1945. They
all have a limitation which is known as "the Von Neuman bottleneck". This bottleneck reduces the computer
performance and waists energy. Netmory doesn't have this limitation and consequently it results in an
increased performance.

Why there is no Von Neuman bottleneck with Netmory ?

1) Netmory does not use the virtual memory technique which aggravates the bottleneck.

2) The CPU doesn't load programs in memory.

3) The memory has 2 busses.

What is the maximum memory size that Netmory
support? There is no limit on the memory size. The
memory grows indefinitely.

How persistence is achieved in Netmory? The

interconnect incorporates storage capabilities. It
can save and restore the volatile data. The
memory appears to be persistent.

Does network latency affects the performance of a

computer that incorporates Netmory? No. The
interconnect includes an immediate memory. The
local computer with the immediate memory is
equivalent in performance with today's computers.

When 2 computers incorporate Netmory, they

communicate with a new protocol that can transfer
memory resources over the network.When
multiple computers use this patent they create a
collective memory.A computer has a choice 1) to
send a content to a remote computer (by value) or
2) to share its memory so the remote computer
grabs the content at later time (by reference). The
CPU addressing mechanism needs to
accommodate a variable and extensible address
field. It's a new architecture.

We distinguish 3 types of memory transactions: 1) immediate : when the content is present in the immediate
memory, it is served to the CPU like normal DRAM. 2) intermediate : when the content is present in the
interconnect in the storage area. 3) long latency : when the content is on the network.
