ETHICS PERFORMANCE TASK 2

What do you see as the purpose of the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional

Conduct of the Education Profession of Florida?

I see the purpose of the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the

Education Profession of Florida to be a list of necessary morals of conduct for educators to

follow. By following this code and the principles therein, we are ensuring that we are being the

best educator we can be for our students. Ultimately, these are put into place to make sure that

all students are given a safe learning environment.

What is a specific detailed example from this semester when you demonstrated being an

ethical educator?

One time this semester that I demonstrated being an ethical educator is whenever I am

doing my coursework assignments, or talking with colleagues about a student, I do not give away

any information about the student that would cause them to be identifiable, including but not

limited to using a pseudonym instead of the student’s actual name. I also do not speak about the

students in any way when it is not professionally related – such as in an assignment or meeting

with my USF Internship Supervisor. Whenever I post clips from my lessons or any photographs,

I make sure that the faces of all of my students are either not present or blurred/blacked out.

In my level three multimodal presentation, I will be having data that ties to two specific

students. To protect their privacy, I have given each of them a pseudonym and redacted their

name from any artifact. You can see an example of this below in Figure 1.

How is this specific example connected to the Code of Ethics?

This specific example is connected to the Code of Ethics because 3i states, “Shall keep in

confidence personally identifiable information obtained in the course of professional service,

unless disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.” I am not in violation of

this principle, and I go out of my way to make sure that I do not do anything that would put be in

violation of this by keeping all personal identifying information from being shared. In the case

of a professional project that requires me to discuss a student, I still avoid using the student’s

name or anything else that would cause the student to be identifiable.

For example, the level three multimodal presentation is based on a professional project

that is part of the level three internship curriculum. Because of this, I have a reason to discuss a

student, however I still need to avoid using the student’s name and other identifiable information.

To do this I used a pseudonym for my students on the presentation.

pseudonyms for my students instead of their real names.
