Document of Artifacts: ELCC Standard 3.

0 Management and Operations

Description of Artifact

In October of 2017, based on office referral data, the principal and I, with feedback from

staff, restructured our student discipline procedures. In order to provide clarity and consistency in

implementing the new procedures, I created a flowchart that defines actions to take when student

behavior infractions occur.

Alignment to ELCC 3.0 Management and Operations

At the start of the 2017-2018 school year, there was not a clear set of procedures in place

for addressing student behavior concerns and infractions, therefore the principal and I outlined

procedures to be followed (ELCC 3.1, 3.3). I developed a flow chart to provide a visual guide to

the procedures and actions taken by key stakeholders in the school (ELCC 3.2, 3.3, 3.4).

Following the procedures should help keep all students and staff safe (ELCC 3.3). The new

discipline procedures focus on changing student behaviors which, over time, allow teachers to

focus on high-quality instruction (ELCC 3.5).

Significance

As and educational leader, it is crucial for me to continuously monitor and evaluate

school management and operational systems. When I realize there is not a clear system in place,

I will need to work with my staff and community to develop a system. When it comes to student

safety, I will make sure there are school based policies and procedures that protect the students.
