TOPIC-“A CASE STUDY OF CASH MANANGEMENT AT SBI IN
LUCKNOW”

INTRODUCTION

Cash is the important current asset for the operations of the business. Cash is the
basic input needed to keep the business running on a continuous basis; it is also the ultimate
output expected to be realized by selling the service or product manufactured by the firm. The
firm should keep suffi ci ent cash, nei t her m ore nor l ess. C as h short a ge wi l l
d i s rupt t he fi rm ’s m anufact u ri ng operations while excessive cash will simply remain
idle, without contributing anything towards the firm’s profitability. Thus, a major
function of the financial manager is to maintain a sound cash position.
Cash is the money which a firm can disburse immediately without any restriction. The term
cashi ncl ud es coi ns,c urren c y and ch eques hel d b y t he fi rm , an d bal ances i n i
t s bank acc ount s . Sometimes near-cash items, such as marketable securities or
bank time’s deposits, are also included in cash. The basic characteristic of near-cash
assets is that they can readily be converted into cash. Generally, when a firm has excess cash,
it invests it in marketable securities. This kind of investment contributes some profit to the
firm

SCOPE OF THE STUDY:

The study will be for getting deep knowledge and overview of the Cash Management towards
giving special reference to State Bank of India. The scope of study is to know how the cash is
been managed at SBI (Rajajipuram Branch, Lucknow )and to know about the system
prevailing in bank and the changes which they are adopting as per change of various
government policies and need of time. This study will also focus on purpose of cash
management and to suggest methods for improving cash management in Banks.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES :

Objectives of a project tell us why project has been taken under study. It helps us to know
more about the topic that is being undertaken and helps us to explore future prospects of that
organization. Basically it tells what all have been studied while making the project.
 To understand how cash is being managed by SBI (Rajajipuram Branch, Lucknow)
 To gain knowledge about the system prevailing in Banks.
 To suggest methods for improving cash management in Banks

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY :

RESEARCH DESIGN- Descriptive research design


Data is the information collected from various sources. It is concerned with gather accurate
and proper knowledge about the problem that is in hand. Formally there are two type of
gathering information namely primary data and secondary data. Primary data is defined as
data that is collected from original sources for a specific purpose. Secondary data is data
collected from indirect sources.

PRIMARY SOURCES
These include the structured questionnaire method, as well as the personal interview methods
of data collection.

SECONDARY SOURCES
These include books, the internet, company brochures, the company website, competitor’swe
bsites etc, newspaper articles etc.

SAMPLE SIZE:

A sample size of 30 people will be taken in order to carry the study.

SAMPLING UNIVERSE: LUCKNOW

Sampling area: F- Block, Rajajipuram, Lucknow


SAMPLING TECHNIQUE: A sample is a representative of the universe selected for study
A sample random technique will be adopted to select the representative sample from the
sampling unit.

TOOLS FOR DATA COLLECTION:

Data for study is collected from both primary and secondary data.
