COURSE OUTLINE
Timetable
Sessions start at 9.00am, and finish for lunch at 12.15pm. Afternoon sessions run from 1.00pm until
6.00pm, and on certain days, time will be made available for you to work together with your tutors to
plan lessons, ask questions about your assignment work and even practice applying the teaching
methodologies in peer micro-teaching sessions with your co-trainees.
Punctuality is an important part of teaching, so please be in the TESOL classroom before the sessions
start. For Teaching Practice lessons, it is expected that you be prepared and ready to start teaching 15
minutes before the lesson starts, to take any last-minute needs into account. This is a level of
professionalism that is expected by your trainers and by the students who will be ready for you on
time for their lessons.
During input sessions, you are expected not just to participate actively and ask questions if you are
not clear on anything, but also to observe and take good notes of what goes on in every aspect of the
course’s delivery. Our trainers will demonstrate a wide range of teaching approaches, methods, tasks
and activities which you should be aware of for adaptation and use in your own teaching for the course
and beyond.
You will gain invaluable teaching experience with constructive criticism (as well as praise!) to help
accelerate your teaching skills. You get fantastic support from highly qualified and very empathetic
trainers to help you plan and organise your teaching practice lessons. The trainers give full feedback
in a helpful, confidence building manner but also trainees observe and make constructive and
supportive comments too!
Finally, self-reflection and evaluation of both yourself and your peers is an essential part of this course.
Be prepared to receive honest feedback on your performance, and you should in turn be prepared to
give honest appraisals of what you experience on the course, too. Reflection has been proven to be a
key aspect of the development of teaching skills at this level, so please take an objective and
considered approach to evaluation as your (and your peers’) teaching skills evolve.
Overall, be alert, be active, ask questions and enjoy the experience; teaching is one of the most
rewarding activities when it goes well, and can be frustrating when it doesn’t. The most important
thing is to show that you can learn from your experiences on the course and meet the deadlines that
are designed for you along the way.
We recommend non-native candidates have at least an IELTS 7.0 or equivalent. However, all applicants
have to pass a pre-interview task in order to get to the course.
This English plus course is designed to fast track students onto a Cert TESOL teacher training course.
This course is for non-native speakers who either already teach English in their native countries or
want to have an English language teaching career.
This is an ideal opportunity for people looking for a practical language learning focus with the potential
of a job at the end of their study time! We fast track students with close academic support improving
their English level quickly and preparing them for the essential pre-course interview.
Students who gain the sufficient English language level and pass the pre-course interview will then
take the internationally recognised Cert TESOL course.
You can study from between 3 months and 10 months prior to any Cert TESOL course. If you are not
sure of your level and how long a pre-English study period is necessary, contact us and we will discuss
your level and needs and get you on your new career path.
