Classroom Procedures

General Procedures

A. Beginning of period- Students arrive to class prepared with the essential materials, of paper and
something to write on. If the student is assigned a textbook or a tablet, they will be expected to bring
that with them to class each day. Students will then proceed to answer a question geared to help them
remember an essential point or part of the previous days lesson. Each student will have an assigned seat
which they will need to be in when the period begins.

1. Attendance Check-Students will be assigned seats. Attendance will be taken at the beginning
of the period based off these assigned seats. Any student who fails to be in their assigned seat at
the beginning of the period will be marked tardy.

2. Previously absent students-Previously absent students will go to the absent folder for the day
of the week they were absent and grab materials inside. If they have questions, they can ask me
after class, during lunch, or email me. (I like this from the example and so I decided to keep it).

3. Tardy Students-Students who are tardy will quietly without causing a disruption enter class,
hand me a tardy slip, sit in their assigned seat, and get out their materials for class. If the
student does not have a tardy slip, then they will not be excused for the tardy and quietly sit in
their desk.

4. Expected student behavior-Students may talk freely at the beginning of the period, after the
bell rings and the period begins the students will be expected to cease their conversing and pay
attention to further instruction.

B. Out-of-room policies-Any school policy or honor-code that is currently in place will suffice.

C. Materials and equipment-Students will be expected to have a notebook, a writing utensil, and any
required reading materials that the class is working on. If students have been assigned a device to use,
that will be expected daily as well.

1. What to bring to class-Students will bring required materials (notebook, writing utensil, and
any required reading materials) to class every class period.

2. Pencil sharpener-Students may get up and sharpen their pencils during class if needed.

3. Student contact with teacher’s desk, storage, other materials-Not at anytime should there be
a student behind the teachers desk or on the teachers computer without the teachers expressed
permission. Students will also need permission to access other materials and storage. At all
times these things will be locked.

D. Ending the period-Students will continue to work until the end of the period.

Seat-Work and Instruction Procedures

A. Student Attention-Students are expected to pay attention when asked for it, and to follow all
instructions given throughout the period. They are expected to be respectful to anyone addressing the
class, including intercom announcements.
B. Student Participation-Students will be expected to participate fully during class time. This
participation can take on many forms and will be monitored by the teacher.

C. Seat-work procedures-Students will be expected to remain in their assigned seats unless given
permission to move. Their in-class assignments should be completed in their own hand and on their own
paper, but they may freely work with other students when applicable.

1. Talk among students-Students may feel free to talk to their peers about assignments. When
finished with assignments students may converse about other things, but only after they have
finished their work.

2. Obtaining help-Students should seek help from their peers when confronted with a question,
If they need further help they may ask the teacher. They need not feel they need to go to
another student first if they do not feel comfortable.

3. Out of seats- Students may leave their seats to retrieve items from around the room. They are
expected to remain in their assigned seats for assignment work, unless given permission to
move.

4. When seat work has been completed-When finished with seat work students will be given a
question to answer about the days lesson. When they have finished that they may freely walk
about the room and talk with students who are also finished, if they are not disrupting other
students.

Student Group Work

A. Use of materials and supplies-Students should come prepared with all materials when necessary for
group work.

B. Assignment of students to groups-Students will be able to choose their own groups, unless they do
not get their work done. If their work does not get completed I will assign groups until the students can
learn to get their work done.

C. Student participation and behavior-Student will be expected to participate fully in groups. Each group
assignment will be given a participation grade based upon the groups individual evaluations of each
member.

Miscellaneous

A. Signals-I will usually clap my hands to gain attention. When I clap students will become quiet and wait
for instruction.

B. Behavior during interruptions-Students are expected to give the same respect to others when they
come and address the class, including announcements.

C. Fire and disaster drills-Students will abide by fire and disaster drills with the utmost care. They will be
on their best behavior especially if we are having a lockdown drill. They will stay off their phones and
remain attentive to their surroundings.
E. Split lunch period-Lunch period will be seen as a break and students may leave their things in the
room although the classroom will be locked during lunch and no student will be able to have access until
the lunch period is over.

Managing Student Work

Grading System

A. School Policy-I will follow the school’s policy on grading and the grading system used by the

grades, bell work and quizzes will be worth 20% of grade and unit projects and tests will be
worth 60% of grade.

Feedback and Monitoring

A. Checking Procedure- I will use standard checking procedures assisted by technology resources. I
will use answers keys for assignments and tests. If student feel they have been marked down for
a correct answer they may appeal to me with their concern.
B. Student Records- Students should keep all their completed work unit they see their grade in the
computer system. Once they see their grade in the computer gradebook they may do what they
will with their assignments.
C. Monitoring Classwork- Students will hand in their class work before they leave class on the day
the assignment is due. There will be a tray for handing assignments in. If students will not
complete assignments on their due dates, students should let me know in advance.

assignments that take more time to complete. I will break down longer assignments into smaller
parts with varying due dates to help students manage this.

Communicating Assignments

when assigned and be posted on the board for further reference. At the beginning of class I will
remind students of upcoming due dates with a written reference on the board.

assignment so that students may feel they know what is expected of them in their assignments.
