Unit Title: Factoring Trinomials Name: Ms. Gonzalez

Content Area: Algebra Grade Level: 9-12th
CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):
Seeing Structure in Expressions A-SSE
1. Factor a quadratic expression to reveal the zeros of the function it defines

Big Ideas/Unit Goals:

1. Students will learn how to factor trinomials of the form ,𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐 = 0

2. Students will recognize how to factor trinomials when the leading coefficient is not 1
3. Students will be able to check their solution by working backwards.

Unit Summary:

In this unit, you will learn to factor trinomials of various forms. Students will be able to recognize which method of factoring is
applicable such as, the difference of two squares, using the snowflake method, difference and sum of cubes, or simply factoring
the GCD . At the beginning of class I will start with a small Kahoots quiz to get students thinking about the GCD of various
numbers. After this is completed I Will begin with handing out guided notes via the Ipad or handwritten, Where I will go over
various forms of factoring and have some for students to try on their own. After this is completed I will put students into groups
where they will work on different problems involving factoring, these problems will be given both in the guided notes and in the
Ipad Lesson. At the end of class Students will be given a worksheet for homework. To summarize this topic, students will be given
a graphic organizer where they will be able organize how they go about factoring a trinomial, some of the students may have a
different approach, but in all they graphic organizers should be similar.
Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level: Formative: Summative:
