Katrina Foley for Costa Mesa’s First Directly Elected Mayor in 2018
Wendy Leece, a former City Councilmember, School Board Member and current member of the
Finance and Pension Advisory Committee, announced today her endorsement of Councilwoman
Katrina Foley’s campaign for Costa Mesa Mayor.
Costa Mesa, CA, April 23, 2018 --(PR.com)-- In a prepared statement Leece said:
“I have watched Katrina for many years and her heart is always for what's best for the community and for
kids. I am tired of hearing the lies about this fine Costa Mesa woman. I'm sick of the attacks on her.
Enough. Let's all work together to solve our rehab home and homeless crisis, protect and keep our
neighborhoods safe, and help our young as well as aging residents.”
Costa Mesa Council Member Foley served with Leece on the City Council from 2006-2010. For years,
they have valued their bipartisan friendship and worked together on many projects to benefit residents.
Setting aside political partisanship, these two moms found they were better able to serve the local
community as a whole. Although retired from the council, Leece and Foley continue to team up to
support residents.
Leece, in her role as a member of the City's Finance and Pension Advisory Committee, is one of eleven
voices that provide advice to the City Council, which includes the Mayor, regarding issues which may
affect the financial status of the City. She is a tireless servant of the community.
The election for Costa Mesa's first directly elected Mayor will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
In July 2017, Costa Mesa's proliferation of sober-living homes prompted Foley to join forces with the
Association of California Cities - Orange County, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, and other public
officials and reform advocacy citizens to advocate for sober-living reform and passage of AB 572 to
house a licensing inspector in Costa Mesa.
Then, in early December of 2017, Councilwoman Katrina Foley travelled to Washington D.C. with other

OC and LA elected officials in an effort to speak with federal leaders about abuses by sober living (rehab)
home operators and the federal laws that prevent cities, counties and states from reasonably regulating
their activities.
Foley was one of nine community leaders that made the journey to the nation's capital. Since her return
she has lead the charge against abusive rehab home operators as they continue to treat their patients in a
deplorable manner and threaten litigation against the city's sober living ordinances. Foley, along with
fellow lawyer and colleague Councilman John Stephens and resident advocates like Leece, has worked
hard to resolve some of the overwhelming homeless issues these sober-living home practices are
contributing to.
