Name: Josh O’Kelley

PART A: Students will listen to the audio recording to receive directions on what to do with the videos
found in the links, and in the document provided by the teacher to set the stage for the next day’s lesson.
Rather than have the students listen to the videos during class, the students can instead engage in a
conversation with the teacher concerning the aspects of religion on culture and societal development in
South Asia.
Grade Level: 9th
Content Area: World Geography

Brief Description of Learning Experience:

As the teacher moves through the lesson using the audio file, and supplemented video, the students will
work on their notes, and work on deciding what topic they would like to cover. Each student will use a
different topic, and therefore will provide the much-needed diversity to this technology project from a
Geography standpoint. There are two types of Geography which the students will be reminded of, to allow
for students to broaden their outlook on topics as most students will focus on just a few things such as Mt.
Everest, the Dalai Lama, and Tibet, etc.

These projects are designed to be shared with their peers, and perhaps put on the class blog that is hosted by
the teacher. This allows for the students to share their hard work, but also make it a fun, educational
learning experience using technology. Students will be provided with a rubric, covering length of project,
number of photos to include, captions, and other significant information. This will help to guide the
students in the development of their exciting work!

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking:

This lesson would be at least a level 3 on the LoTi scale, perhaps a 4 because of key factors like students
using technology to create a project and also share it with their peers, and on a broader level, also share it
with their other teachers, classmates, and parents via a blog. This provides significant support of a LoTi ¾
activity.

Importance of technology:

This technology could be completed without the Movie Maker platform; however, it might be considerably
more difficult, and not in the same file format as a video or audio file would be. Audacity on the other hand
provides the students with a free download, and very user friendly, and intuitive to the more technology
savvy students. If students did not have the Movie Maker program, they could produce a PowerPoint and
supplement with Audacity’s audio file to combine them into a similar project, however, if Audacity is not
used, then the project simply becomes another PowerPoint presentation. Both Audacity and Movie Maker
are used in the creation of this project for the South Asia Geography assignment.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

A big part of the internet safety will come from the teacher reminding the students about the school’s policy
regarding web browsing and providing personal information. The teacher will guide the students to
properly protect themselves in the making of the project by constantly checking on the condition of the
project, as well as providing the students with a rubric to reinforce the safety policies and requirements. As
the teacher, the class blog may be a viable option to share some of the better projects, and as such, the
teacher will review each project that is selected to go on the blog and adjust the information as necessary to
adhere to all policies and rules and protect the student. The blog will also be monitored by not allowing
comments to be made without first being approved by the teacher, so that parents do not accidentally share
information regarding their child or their work that might be against the rules.
