skills to understand and evaluate media sources for
relationships between intent, factual content and
opinion. The class will begin with the teacher
explaining what media is and different types of media
that students should be familiar with. The teacher will
then go through a preselected example of a media
source with the students and help them examine the
source for intent, factual content and opinion
together as a class. The student should be able to
recognize that media messages express points of view
and contain their own values. The student should also
be able to understand the difference between
objectivity and subjectivity in media messages.
Therefore, the students are going to use google to
find an article from a source well-known and
reputable source that they are familiar with. Then the
students are going to link the article on
livejournal.com and examine the article for its points
of view and subjective points as well as its objective
points and post a blog post explaining them. The
student will include 2 objective points from the article
and 2 subjective points from the article and discuss
what makes those points either objective or
subjective and how the points influenced their
opinions on the subject of the article.
