AP Calculus BC – Mathematician Research,

Graph Theory, Greek Letter, & Song Rubric

The goal of this project is for you to be informative, instructive, interactive, and creative on researching
and presenting knowledge of Graph Theory & Mathematicians and their contributions.
1. The class will be divided into 6 groups.
2. Each group will create an informative “Clean & Legal” presentation.
3. Song
a. Create an ORIGINAL song and/or music video about a Calculus concept performed by 1
or more group members.
b. Print a typed copy of the song/lyrics with the name of the tuned used.
c. Songs should be between 2 – 3 minutes in length.
d. No references should be made to anything illegal or immoral.

4. Mathematicians’ Research:
a. Each group will select five Mathematicians.
b. 2 Mathematicians must be from the following list of 14 Graph Theorist:
Hadwiger Hamilton Kirkman Harary Cayley De Morgan Kirchoff
Dirac Sylvester Polya Guthrie Erdos – Renyi Berge Hassler Whitney
(Helpful website of Mathematicians  www-history.mcs.st-and.ac.uk/Day_files/Year.html)
c. The remaining 3 mathematicians selected must show a variety of NEW conceptual
growth and research.
i. Each group will research, demonstrate, and/or teach 1 – 3 concepts from the
groups’ mathematicians.
d. Additional Information:
i. Mathematician’s Name, Picture (if available), & Life Dates.
ii. List of Major Mathematical, Scientific, and/or societal contributions
- Strange, humorous, and/or odd anecdotes about the mathematician’s life
iii. Sited resources using MLA format from your English class.
iv. Provide detailed problems and solutions depicting the mathematical
contribution(s) of the mathematicians that relate to a new mathematical
concept and/or Graph Theory.
e. Students’ Biographical Section: - Student’s Name - Information from sections i and ii, a
list of interests, college plans, career plans, life goals, & any additional anecdotes.
5. Graph Theory Theme:
a. REVISE each theme and base the activities in Raleigh, NC; Wake County; and/or NC.

b. UPSCALE each project to demonstrate/include as many Graph Theory terms and
concepts within each visual/oral presentation.
c. List all of the Graph Theory terms and demonstrate where they are located within the
"Graph Theory Project" - (The list and location of terms/concepts must be TYPED!!!)
