1. HISTORY

ATB Riva Calzoni Spa has been established on October 23rd 2003 by merging the know-
how, the experience, the technological capabilities and the facilities of ATB Acciaieria e
Tubificio di Brescia Spa (ATB) and Riva Calzoni Impianti Srl (Riva Calzoni).

The two companies have operated for more than 100 years in the business of the design,
manufacturing and installation of mechanical equipments for different industrial
applications

ATB was established in 1934 with the outright purchase of the workshops, drawings,
designs, patents and trademarks of the former ‘Società Italiana Tubi Togni’ and ‘Società
Siderurgica Togni’ established in 1903. Since then, ATB carried out a continuous
expansion in order to meet the ever increasing need of hydroelectric project plants, oil and
petrochemical industries, thermoelectric power generation plants.

Riva Calzoni has operated under different names from 1834 by designing, manufacturing
and installing equipments for Hydraulic and Hydroelectric power plants.

The company belongs to the TROMBINI group which operates several companies in
various diversified sectors, such as civil/industrial building/construction, metal carpentry,
plant engineering, software services and real estate. The TROMBINI group is located in
ARTOGNE, Brescia (www.gruppotrombini.it).

The company HEAD QUARTER is in RONCADELLE, a few kilometers away from Brescia,
where are located the headquarter and the main factory:

2. EXPERTISE

Since more than one century ATB RIVA CALZONI SpA is dealing with design,
manufacturing, installation and commissioning of Steel Penstocks and Hydromechanical
Equipment for hydraulic and hydroelectric plants all over the world.

On the basis of this long experience in a continuously expanding market, ATB RIVA
CALZONI SpA is recognized among the most qualified international companies for the
supply, on “turn key” basis, of the following equipment:

- Steel penstocks, linings, bifurcations and manifolds

- Butterfly valves, dissipating valves and regulating valves
- Spillway and bottom outlet radial gates, fixed-wheel gates, sliding high-pressure
gates, complete of operation and control equipment
- Hydraulic units and control panels, equipped with computer operated systems
- Trashracks and trashrack cleaning machines

In the last years, ATB RIVA CALZONI SpA has also acquired great experience in the field
of high tensile strength materials for penstocks fabrication, in particular as far as welding
procedures are concerned.

3. HYDROELECTRIC AND HYDRAULIC PLANTS APPLICATION

ATB Riva Calzoni is today among the most qualified international companies for design,
fabrication, installation and commissioning of equipment for hydraulic and hydroelectric
plants basing its long experience in this field.

In fact by combining the experience of the two mother companies, ATB and Riva Calzoni,
it can be said that more that 90% of hydroelectric power plants installed in Italy up to the
80’s have been supplied by our company.

Since its foundation ATB has developed the growing needs of Italian industrialization and
becoming the leading fabricator in the supply of high pressure pipes for penstocks
applications

The design of bended penstocks externally reinforced with hot fitted forged rings has
constituted for years a patent of ATB that has produced with this system pipes able to
resist the higher pressure using relatively thin plates easy to be welded and installed in
field all over the world. As example could be considered the penstock in the plant of ENEL-
San Fiorano with a water head of 1.418 meters and a diameter of 2.150 mm.

In the last years, the company has developed also the welding of high strength quenched
and tempered steels that can be welded in field with considerable saving in the thickness,
compared with the traditional plain carbon pipe works.
For reference, the company has completed the fabrication of pipes for the Cleuson
Dixence plant in Switzerland made by STE 890, 3m diameter, thickness up to 80 mm, total
weight 3.000 ton using a special welding procedure.

Riva Calzoni designed the first hydraulic turbine in 1867 and starting from the beginning of
the 20th century developed other complementary applications that have made them well
known all over the world.

In the field of mechanical equipments for hydroelectric and hydraulic plants, both the
companies developed their know-how in the design of valves and gates covering all types
and overall sizes.

Furthermore the development of the more valuable oleo-dynamic control mechanism

extensively employed in the control of large radial gates as an alternative to the
electromechanical hoists has been promoted worldwide.

The combined track records of the two companies, allow us to cover the production of any
kind of hydromechanical equipment

Recently the company has also implemented design and construction of mini-hydro power
plants on turn-key basis.

4. FACILITIES

The world wide reputation of ATB is related to a wide range of penstocks, gates and
valves, traditional products of hydroelectric field.

ATB uses existing facilities in Roncadelle, which has been recently implemented with
modern equipment that enable the manufacturing of a large range of welded constructions.

The ATB shop in Roncadelle, 5 km from Brescia, is divided in 5 bays, each one of the
following dimensions :
- width: 23 to 25 meters
- length: 127 to 233 meters
- height under hook:12 meters

One of this bays is dedicated to the manufacturing of tubes or courses destined to

hydraulic penstocks. The plates enter directly in this building, they are oxycut and bevel
machined in the short edges before bending and rolling in cold conditions. After
assembling they are welded.

Each bay is arranged with overhead cranes, having capacities from 15 to 125 tons crane.

The welding qualifications are done in the ‘School of Welding’, meeting point for inspectors
and welders.

In a dedicated building there are both the laboratory where destructive tests and chemical
analysis can be performed , as well as the machining area of test coupons.
