Instruction and Prohibition

Aims : 1. Studentds are able to give instruction and prohibition

2.Students are able to define instruction and prohibition in their daily life

Sometimes, we need to tell other people to do something or not to do something.

When we want someone to do something, we give him/her instruction. While when
don’t want someone to do something, we give him/her prohibition. Instruction and
prohibition can be in a form of spoken and written words or a sign. We usually find
instruction and prohibition in the public places like library, street, park, etc.

Instruction functions to tell someone to do something. Instruction is always in form

of positive sentence. It can be in a form of be + non verb or just in a form of bare
infinitive.
Prohibition functions to tell someone not to do something. We can identify
prohibition from its negative sentence. It usually starts with “do not/don’t” or “no”.

A. These are the examples of instruction and prohibition.

B. Response of prohibition

Fatimah : Hi, Ami. What are you doing?

Ami : Oh, hi, Fatimah. I am returning the books that I borrowed yesterday.

How about you?

Fatimah : I am looking for some books for my biology project. By the way, have you done

your biology project?

Ami : Oh, I am still working on it right now. Why don’t we do it together?

Fatimah : Sure, that’s a good idea.

Librarian : Be quite!

Fatimah : O.K, I am sorry. Some moments later, they started to talk again. However,

it seemed that they were talking too loud. So, the librarian warned them.

Librarian : Don’t be noisy! You might disturb other visitors.

Fatimah : I’m really sorry, Ma’am.
