Assessing Prior Knowledge

This will be done from previous writings.

Introduction
The class will have a discussion about Earth Day and what that means to us. I will then lead the discussion into the Lorax and how
we can all make a difference just like the boy in the Lorax.

Interaction (Guided Practice)

We will watch the Lorax pausing at important parts to discuss it as a class. Example questions:
- What was the land like before the Once-ler?
- Why does the Lorax speak for the trees?
- What kind of person is the Once-ler?
- How does the Once-ler’s Thneed business hurt the land?

The students will then be given time to write.

I will write key words on the board to help the students in their writing.
- Once-ler
- Thneed
- Truffula
- Smog

Closure
Ask for volunteers to share their writing and celebrate all their great ideas. I will create a display of their work.
