Instructions for use of kit

Choose one of the two knot-tying instruction guides and tie knots
using any of the materials in the box.

The “Essential Fishing Knots” instruction booklet is intended to be

used with the fishing line and hooks. Fishing line can be used in
one section per patient and the hooks can be disinfected after
each use.

The “Pro-Knot” instruction leaflet is intended to be used with the

strip of paracord or sections yarn. The paracord can be disinfected
after each use and the yarn can be cut into one section per patient.
Examples of intervention 1. FMC Activity: Set up strip of paracord and “Pro-Knot”
activities instruction leaflet. Ask the patient to follow the
instructions in the leaflet to tie 2-3 basic knots.

2. Problem Solving Activity: Tie a specific knot or have a knot

prepared for the patient. Ask the patient to use the leaflet
to determine which knot was tied. Repeat this activity with
different knots.

3. FMC Activity: Set up fishing line, a hook, and “Essential

Fishing Knots” instruction booklet. Ask patient to follow
the instructions in the booklet to tie 2-3 fishing knots onto
a hook.

4. Problem Solving Activity: Give the patient either knot guide

and let them review the booklet for knot instructions. Ask
the patient to watch you tie a knot while you intentionally
make an error in the tie. Ask the patient to determine what
error you made and see if they can explain how to correct
the error.
How kit can be graded for low Grading down:

 Ask patient to tie one knot instead of multiple
 Verbally break down steps in knot or demonstrate
Grading up:
 Use “Essential Fishing Knots” guide with thin fishing line
 Use the “Pro-knot” guide with thinner yarn
 Ask patient to tie multiple knots
 Time the patient while tying knots
