PERSONAL REFLECTION ON DEMEANORS, WORDS,

ACTIONS OF JUDGES AND LAWYERS

Upon observing several cases, it appeared that there were some lawyers who
portray themselves as confident and who know very well of what they are doing.
On the other hand, some were very timid and careful when talking before the
Judge. Nonetheless, all the lawyers were very polite and respectful when
conversing with the Judge.

What caught my attention was the fact that the Judge in this court was very
considerate on the lawyers and parties, depending on each of their circumstances.
A very good example for this is when a counsel in one case had just been engaged
by the party involved. The case was in the presentation of complainant’s witness
stage but since he was not able to study the case in depth, the counsel asked for a
postponement to which the Judge allowed.

Most of the time, the Judge always gives the counsel and parties the last
chance to either bring the witness for the next scheduled hearing. There were also
3 instances when the Judge gave an opportunity for 3 separate parties to find or
engage the services of another lawyer since the lawyer that they previously
engaged the services of, was already dead and the parties did not know of this until
the hearing. The Judge kept on giving the advise to go to the PAO office to ask for
assistance there if they do not have money to get another lawyer.

All in all, the Judge treated the lawyers and the parties with fairness and
equality. As to the lawyers, they were very respectful and they always thought of
what is best for their clients.
