Growing and Developing Professionally (TESS 4e) + Advocacy for

Young Adolescents and Developmentally Responsive Schooling

Practices (AMLE Standard 5, Element b)

When examining the

practice of teaching, it
essential to note that I as a
teacher have to continually
pursue knowledge and
teaching to be the best
teacher that I can possibly
be. By doing this, I can
learn all the
developmentally
responsive practices that
ensure that my students
get the education that is
absolutely necessary for
them to have. One of the
key components of
achieving the knowledge
required to perform those
tasks that ensure
developmentally
responsive schooling
practices is to attend the
professional development available to me as a teacher. To the left of this paragraph is
an image of a sign in sheet that I had to sign when I attended the professional
development at the school that I was interning at. From that meeting we learned how to
prepare our students for the end of semester assessments and then continued to
discuss safety protocols for any threats to the schools campus.

It is my belief that this most closely aligns with the AMLE Standard 5, Element b,
in which I am focusing on the part that states “They are informed advocates for effective
middle level educational practices and policies, and use their professional leadership
responsibilities to create equitable opportunities for all young adolescents in order to
maximize their students' learning.” As I engage with my community in professional
development, I am guaranteeing that my students are receiving the best level of
education possible. With the community of the school that I interned at, I was a member
of a community that was dedicated to making themselves the best they could in order to
give their students the opportunities for success that they deserve.
