Subject/Grade: 2nd grade Social Studies


Objective of the Lesson: Students will be able to identify the 7 continents of the world on the
map.
TEKS Addressed:
§113.13. Social Studies, Grade 2, Beginning with School Year 2011-2012.
(5) Geography. The student uses simple geographic tools such as maps and globes. The student
is expected to:
(A) interpret information on maps and globes using basic map elements such as title, orientation
(north, south, east, west), and legend/map keys; and
(6) Geography. The student understands the locations and characteristics of places and regions in
the community, state, and nation. The student is expected to:
(A) identify major landforms and bodies of water, including each of the continents and each of
the oceans, on maps and globes;

ranging from situations in which topics, language, and contexts are familiar to unfamiliar;

I. demonstrate listening comprehension of increasingly complex spoken English by
following directions, retelling or summarizing spoken messages, responding to questions

Visual: watching the video that directly points out each continent meets the visual learners needs.
Also, repeatedly seeing the continents labeled in the game accesses this need as well.

Kinesthetic: the activity requires the students get up, walk around and physically perform the
duties of the activity.
Audio:Listening to the continent song meets the need of an audio learner. The teacher also
verbally reviews the continents and explains where their locations are as he/she points it out on
the map.

● Plane pieces in baggy (with velcro attached to back to stick to map)
