TOPIC: Career Guidance (Writing Resumes)

PRE-KNOWLEDGE: Students are aware of the importance of developing human resource to


create individuals who are creative thinkers, problem solvers and ultimately productive
employees and why this is important in the workplace.

OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to:

1. Identify the reasons why having a strong resume is important. Cognitive –


(Knowing)
2. Identify elements of a strong resume. Cognitive – (Comprehension)
3. Analyze sample resumes and pick out strong/weak areas. Cognitive – (Analysis)
4. Create their own resumes. Cognitive – (Analysis)
5. Evaluate the importance of writing a strong resume as they go out into the world
of work. Affective – (Evaluation)

SET INDUCTION: Short skit where one student would be the HR manager of a company
interviewing a potential employee. The manager will look over the prospective employee’s
resume. The end result would be that the manger will turn down the employee’s application.

Think-Pair-Share Each student will be given Folders with two sample


two different resumes. In the resumes
first five minutes they will be
asked to peruse the resumes
as if they were HR Managers.

Then students will be placed


in groups of 4/5 and asked to
work together to choose the
resume of the individual they
would hire based on resume
alone. (12-15 mins)

share with the class the
choice they made

SECTIONAL REVIEW/ LESSON CLOSURE: Students will be asked to view a brief video
clip and note the main points

FINAL EVALUATION: The students will be instructed to create their own resumes as a
summative assessment of what they learnt in the lesson. (See Objective #4)
