Research Experiences
Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health, Peking University
07/2016-03/2018, A prospective cohort study on non-communicable diseases in Rural Northern Chinese Communities.
Advisor: Prof. Pei Gao (peigao@bjmu.edu.cn) Prof. Yonghua Hu (yhhu@bjmu.edu.cn)
Part 1 Field study
 Participated in this field study as an investigator, conducted a survey based on paper-free questionnaires, which covered
information about demographics, nutrition, anthropometrics, disease history, and medication.
 Examined Pulse Wave Velocity, body fat and carotid ultrasound (as assistant), tested blood glucose and HbA1c.
Part 2 Effectiveness of Different Screening Strategies for Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases in a Rural Chinese
Population
 Set Markov Status of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) according to natural history of diseases from alive without CVD to
death of any causes, obtained status transition probability from publications and administrative databases.
 Used China-PAR Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Prediction Model and the strategy recommended by Chinese Guideline for
prevention of cardiovascular diseases to stratify people into different risk strata. Modeled the effect of screening and treating

high risk population in different scenarios compared with no screening. Evaluated health impact of each screening strategy
with Number Need to Treat, Number Need to Screen, Life Year Gained and Quality Adjusted Life Year.
 Conduct probabilistic sensitivity analysis concerning uncertainty of all parameters.
9/2016-now, Focusing on the CHinese Electronic health Records Research in Yinzhou(CHERRY) study
Advisor: Prof. Pei Gao (peigao@bjmu.edu.cn)
Part 1 Data preprocessing and management: CVD risk factors, diagnosis and death certification. (Team Leader)
 Extracted variables with SQL in Rhive, formatted data with R packages (dplyr, tidyr and lubridate).
 Described baseline characteristics (age, urban/rural, education, BMI, smoking, alcohol) by sex and overall CVD events/death
in the protocol paper.
Part 2 CVD incidence and all-cause mortality (Team Leader)
 Linked epidemiological surveillance data, chronic diseases management data and inpatient Electronic Medical Records data
to identify first-ever cardiovascular events and deaths. Identified permanent residents in Electronic Health Records database
as total population.
 Analyzed incidence rate of CVD (combine stroke and MI, around 250/100,000 person-years) and all-cause mortality (around
700/100,000 person-years) in people older than 40 years old from 2010 to 2016, and standardized according to 2010 Chinese
population census. Used Chi-square test to examine differences between sex and age subgroups.
 Tested trend with linear regression. Beta coefficient showed stroke, MI and death were stable.
Part 3 Multimorbidity and Risk of Mortality in China
 Identified exposure and outcome: number of multimorbidity and time to death, multimorbidity was defined as suffering from
≥2 of the following disorders: Cancer, CVD, Diabetes and Hypertension.
 Calculated prevalence of one (16.16%), two (4.11%), three (0.36%) disorders, and hazard ratios (HR, 1.17, 1.78, 2.97) for
death compared to people with none of these conditions.
10/2016-02/2017, Efficacy of statin for Primary Prevention in East Asian Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
(Team Leader)
 Clarified the research question, set inclusion and exclusion criteria in terms of PICOTS (Population, Intervention, Control,
Outcomes, Time, Setting and Study Design), designed searching strategies and scanned retrieved titles and abstracts from
online databases (PUBMED, EMBASE and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials)
 Assessed the quality and risk of bias for included articles, used Cochrane Collaboration’s tool for Assessing Risk of Bias
for Randomized Clinical Trials, and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for cohort studies.
 Synthesized data from qualified articles with random-effect model in Stata 14. Used I-square to measure heterogeneity,
Egger’s test to measure publication bias.
 Concluded that using statin could reduce 27% risk of major cardiovascular diseases in East Asia adults for CVD primary
prevention, Relative Risk 0.73, (95% CI: 0.62, 0.83), no significant heterogeneity (I2=0.0%, P=0.536)
Department of Health Service Management, School of Public Health, Peking University
Advisor: Prof. Li Yang (lyang@bjmu.edu.cn)
12/2015-02/2016, Factors Influencing Patient Referral between Teaching Hospitals and Community Clinics
 Designed Open Ended Interview Program and interviewed officers in Xicheng Health Bureau, patients and doctors in
hospitals, recorded the interview with participants’ permission, coded with MAXQDA software, and synthesized the results.
