PROPOSAL TITLE: - Air Pollutants dispersion and its effects on urban population
of Karnataka state.

OBJECTIVE

1. To model and compute aerodynamic loading on building surface.

2. To compute influence of pollutant flow field around the Built Environment.
3. To describe the pollutant flow field around the buildings.
4. To study the factors effecting on the smoke flow pattern.
5. To work out pollutant diffusion and pollutant concentration patterns.
6. To predict pollutant dispersion in built environment.
7. To evaluate influence of geometrical characteristics of buildings and
pollutant diffusion.
8. To evaluate health, comfort and safety.

BACKGROUND

In the urban areas are been constructed with crowded buildings, dense or non
dense vegetation those are normally influence pollutant concentration and
spread all over the surrounding.

Buildings are always found to be in the vicinity of other buildings, especially in

urban areas. This causes effluents released from stacks located on one of the
buildings to re-enter the same or an adjacent building, generating potential
health problems to the occupants of the building

The large number of peoples in the city region live and work at built
environment. There is high concern of safety precautions of the peoples in the
built environment is highly desirable. This research work develops clear pattern
of pollutant flow characters and effect on occupants of the building.
METHODOLOGY

1. In this study a computational fluid dynamics technique is planned to apply to

analyze pollutant flow pattern around the buildings in Built Environment.
2. 3D simulation is planned to carry out to predict the pollutant movement
around Built Environment and wind loading around the building surface.

3. The Assessment of effects on occupants due to air pollutants dispersion.

4. For validating numerical result, planed to conduct scaled model test in the
wind tunnel with smoke effect.

RELEVANCE TO THE FIELD

This study shall build up academic confidence and social concern through
developing numerical technique.

Requirement

1. ABL Wind tunnel

2. Scaled models of building / built environment
3. Hot wire anemometers
