2D / 3D Construction Toggles between 2D and 3D construction modes. In 2D mode all geometry is created
parallel to the current Cplane at the current system Z depth. In 3D mode you can
work freely in various Z depths, unconstrained by the current system Z depth and
Cplane setting.
Gview Sets the graphics view which you will view your geometry from. You can choose a
different standard Gview, an existing named view, create a new named view or set
the Gview to the current Cplane.
Planes Sets the construction plane in which you create and manipulate your geometry. You
can change the current plane by selecting a different standard plane, selecting an
existing named view, creating a new named view and by setting the plane to equal
the current Gview.
Z Depth Sets the current construction depth. To set this click the drop down arrow and pick
one from the most recently used list or click the Z: label and pick a point in the
graphics window to use the Z depth values based on the selected entity.
Color Assigns the current color. To change the current color click in the color field and
select a colour from the colour pallet.
Level Sets the main level you want to work with in the graphics window. To change the
current working level type the level number in the box or select the level using one
of the following methods.
Attributes Lets you change one or more drawing attributes.
Point Style Displays and sets the systems point style.
Line Style Shows and sets the system line style.
Line Width Displays and sets the current system line width.

TUTORIAL #2

Solids Training Tutorial Page|51

TUTORIAL #21 OVERVIEW OF STEPS TAKEN TO CREATE THE FINAL PART:

OVERVIEW OF STEPS TAKEN TO CREATE THE FINAL PART:

From drawing to CAD model:
 The student should examine the drawing on the following page to understand what part is being created in the
tutorial.
 From the drawing we can gain an idea as to how to go about creating the geometry and solid model in
Mastercam.

Create the Wireframe used to create the solid model from:

 The student will create "flat" geometry from the Front and the Top View.
 Geometry with a Z-Depth of 0, in the front plane will be created and used to "revolve" the solid from later on.
 Geometry creation commands such as create rectangle, create line parallel, arc tangent to 3 entities, fillet, and
the trim command will be used.
 The Xform Translate command will be used to make copies of geometry and save time creating additional
geometry that has already been created.

Create the solid model:

 The student will create another level to separate the wireframe from the solid model to organize the file better.
 The Revolve command will be used to create the main solid body of the part.
 The Extrude command will be used to "cut" the holes through the part and the pocket to a certain depth.

Additional tutorial information:

 The student will learn how to set the shading mode to translucent to be able to see through the part.

This tutorial takes approximately thirty minutes to complete.

SOLID CREATION TUTORIAL #21

SOLID CREATION
A Solid is a geometric entity that occupies a region of space and consists of one or more faces, which define the
closed boundary of the solid.

STEP 13: CHANGE THE COLOR TO RED #12

 Select Color from the Status Bar as shown.

 Select the color Red #12 as shown.

 Select the OK button to exit the Colors dialog box.

STEP 14: CHANGE THE MAIN LEVEL TO 2

In this step we will change the main level to 2, to put the solid on level 2 when we create it.

 Left click in the number area to the right of the Level button as shown.

 Change the level number to 2 as shown.

 Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

TUTORIAL #21 CREATE THE SOLID BODY BY REVOLVING A CLOSED CHAIN

STEP 15: CREATE THE SOLID BODY BY REVOLVING A CLOSED CHAIN

Solid Revolve: Performs an operation that results in the creation of one or more new solids. Mastercam revolves entities
by driving the shape of the curves about an axis using the given start and end angles as well as other parameters which
define the results.

Step Preview:

Solids

 Revolve.
 [Select chain(s) to be revolved 1] Leave the default settings in the Chaining Dialog box and select Entity A to
create the chain as shown.

 Select the OK button to exit the Chaining Dialog box.

EXTRUDE CUT THE 0.25" CIRCLE TUTORIAL #21

STEP 16: EXTRUDE CUT THE 0.25" CIRCLE

In this step we will use the Extrude command to "cut" the 0.25" hole through the entire part. We will also enable
translucency in the system settings to be able to see the extrude cut through the solid model.

Step Preview:

Settings

 Configuration.
 The System Configuration dialog box will appear, select Shading from the tree view list on the left hand side of
the dialog box, and enable Translucent on the right hand side as shown.

NOTE: Translucent entities let diffuse light pass through them so that objects on the other side are partially
visible.

 Select the OK button.
