3 Personas:
1. Environmental scientists are those which study issues affecting our environment. They
seek to find answers and solutions to environmental issues. Thus, climate change is of
central interest to such scientists, as this deals directly with changes in our earth's
atmosphere, such as increasing levels of carbon dioxide in our air supply. These changes
can effect human health, causing an increase in illness and disease (National institute of
environmental scientists, n.d.). Thus, as an environmental scientist, your main concern is
finding ways in which to create a healthy environment, and in order to do that,
eliminating climate change has to be of central interest. Environmental scientists agree
that "human activity has been a contributor to global warming since 1975" (Global
Warming Skeptic Organizations, n.d.). One environmental scientist commented that
"climate change is a serious threat to our civilization and this is why it must be
addressed" showcasing the sincerity behind research regarding environmental science
(Addressing Climate Change, 2017). This shows the need to study and potentially solve
the issue of Global Warming, as it is something that impacts our entire species. However,
there are some groups of people within society who are more at risk than others, such as
those "65 and older" (Funk and Rainie, 2015). The reason for this is because older
generations are more susceptible to disease, and they may be more interested in finding
ways to prolong their lives. Environmental scientists may wish to focus their target
audience to older generations for this exact reason. In terms of gender, "women are more
inclined than men to support stricter emission standards (68% do so, compared with 60%
among men)" (Funk and Rainie, 2015). This indicates that although climate change
effects all, and is important to many, women may be slightly more interested in the issue,
providing reason for environmental scientists to focus on appealing to females more than
males.
2. Large media corporations deal with mass media production through media sources such
as television. These businesses would be interested in global warming because their main
goal as a media corporation is to attract viewers. The way for a media corporation to
grow and become successful is by receiving views and high ratings. Thus, because many
people are concerned about climate change, a notable 72%, (Global Warming Skeptic
Organizations, n.d.) media corporations would want to cover stories regarding climate
change, as this would result in viewers turning their televisions to the channels which
display such news. An outstanding "51% of Americans say that media corporations do a
bad job of covering global climate change issues" (Global Warming Skeptic
Organizations, n.d.). This is an alarming number, but it provides incentive and reason for
media corporations to cover climate change effectively, as viewers would be more likely
to watch channels with appropriate coverage. Media corporations are in the business of
receiving views and ratings, and they do what they can to target all people, and this
would not change with the topic of global warming. However, research indicates that
women are more concerned with climate change, and some groups are at a higher risk,
which may indicate a more developed interest in the subject matter.
3. Politicians are those involved in aspects relating to our government, laws and legislation.
In order to be elected to office, they must receive a majority voting from citizens in
society. To receive a majority voting, the politician must express ideas which support the
goals and desires of the population, which will give people a reason to vote them into
office. This is especially true if society is interested in a serious matter perhaps on a
global scale. For example, if society is interested in climate change which is a serious
issue affecting our world, the politician must also be interested in climate change if they
hope to be elected. Thus, because "72% of people say they care a great deal about climate
change issues" (Funk and Kennedy, 2016) it is imperative for politicians to also care
about such issues. There is research to support the claim that there is unsurmountable
"bipartisan support for scientists in climate policy", (Funk and Kennedy, 2016) which is
sensible considering the fact that politicians receive their positions through support from
citizens in society. Politicians seek to achieve votes from all within society, including
males and females, and considering that 72% of society is interested in climate change,
they would seek to appeal to all age groups and all genders

Home Page:
The home page is the center or heart of the website. This page is where viewers can read
interesting information about the topic of global warming, watch videos about the kinds of
natural disasters caused by climate change, and more. This page has structural navigation
because it has a navigation menu on the right side of the page with links to different pages on the
website. This navigation menu showcases structural navigation, as viewers are able to navigate
the website with ease, simply by choosing the page they wish to visit from this menu. This
navigation menu allows visitors to see and understand the basic set up of the website, and the
different pages that it offers. Further, the home page also has associative navigation, as the links
present on the home page such as natural disaster videos and the such, allow visitors to jump to
specific pieces of information relating to global warming.
Events Page:
The events page is meant to increase public awareness on the issue of global warming, providing
ways for us as humans to contribute to lessening the effects of global warming. On this page
visitors would find tips on how we can create a healthy environment, as well as links to events
and locations where information sessions are being held. Thus, this page has associative
navigation, because visitors can simply click on bolded links to access further information about
how to contribute to a better world, and they can see videos on the effects of global warming.
About Page:
The about page, presents visitors with relevant information regarding what interest the three
personas have regarding the topic of global warming, and what they have done individually to
either help solve the issue or raise awareness on the issue. For example, there would be
information regarding how media corporations are incorporating climate change into their
broadcasting, and how politicians are using such information from media sources to find ways in
which to preach to their followers about changes they can make, as well as what environmental
scientists are saying about the issue and their research and findings. This information suggests
that this page has utility navigation, as the information presented on this page differs from what
is found on other pages, catching anything important that viewers should know, but may have
missed.
This relates to the IA, because in my design I have a box called ‘homepage’ and on this page, is
where viewers will read and understand about the relevance of global warming and how it is
affecting our earth. Further, in the IA diagram, it also shows an ‘information’ page, where
visitors to the site can see a drop-down menu to assist with navigation, as each individual page
available on the website is listed under the drop-down menu. The ‘causes’ page has links which
then take the topic of global warming and extend it to the impact of human activity and in the IA
diagram, I drew boxes which show the results of global warming through violent images.
