SENIOR PROJECT SELF-EVALUATION

Directions: Utilize this worksheet to help evaluate yourself and your project. Be as complete
and descriptive as possible. This self-evaluation should give the scoring team and your teacher a
clear picture of what you accomplished in your project.

Name - Brexton O’Hara Project Start Date – January 30, 2018

Title of Project - Losing One Pound Project Completion Date - March 26, 2018
at a Time

1. In 40 words or more describe who your project benefited and how. In other words, what was the
impact of your project?

The people who benefited from my project were definitely the students as I saw in their faces that they
were having fun. I also know, by having a survey at the end of the class, the majority of the class had fun
and learned that being active is fun and being healthy is the way to live you life. It has also benefited me
by letting have this effect on the students and being able to be an influence on their lives so that they can
live their best life.

2. In at least 40 words explain how the project challenged you. How was this a stretch for you?

My project challenged me by teaching a P.E. class which I have never done before and creating a lesson
which is so much harder than you would think. Because this class being a break from their regular teacher
I wanted to ensure that the students had fun because that was the pure reason that I was teaching the class,
the show them that being active can be fun.

3. List and then describe 5-8 fundamental ideas/concepts/skills of your project, which you
learned/enhanced during your project.

A. Public Speaking-
I don’t really feel comfortable to speak in front of people I’m not familiar with and I taught a class that I
was unfamiliar with and I have grown from the experience.
B. Communication (with adults not familiar with)-
Communication was key in producing this project and I’m not necessarily the best at talk with someone I
am not familiar with, I normally lose my train of thought or begin to jumble my words as I nervous.
C. Productivity-
Had to be able to make myself productive when I too much time on my hands and not procrastinate.
D. Teaching-
I’ve never been in the position to teach a class or really teach anyone, so this experience helped me with
tactics on how to teach young children.

E. Organization-
I had to be organized in order to check my email, make sure I knew what was going on, and talking to my
consultant. Being organized helped me not miss a step through the process and my organization
improved.
4. List and describe 4-8 problems/obstacles/issues you encountered in your project, and briefly
describe how you solved each.

1. Venue-
At first I wanted to do it a Elementary school and I never got an email back, so in turn I sent out nine
emails in one day and got a response soon after.
2. Time and Date-
I initially thought I was going to do my project on March 23, but my mom and I didn’t communicate well
enough and I was not aware we would not be home on that date because we were going to East Carolina
University for admitted students day the next day.
3. Photos-
Some of the students didn’t have the waiver signed that would allow me to take pictures of them, so I
couldn’t have them in pictures so that was difficult.
4. Creating a lesson plan-
This was difficult for me because I have never created a lesson plan before so it was a fun but difficult
experience.

5. List all people who helped you on the project and briefly describe the help given.
Mrs. Sieders-
Allowed me to teach her class.
Coach Kurt Brown-
guided me to creating an actual P.E. lesson plan and not just doing field day games.
Marissa Robles-
Drove me to my project and was my support system through the process.
Kevin O’Hara (Grandpa)-
Took pictures for my project.
Mr. Karl Knoche-
He was my senior project consultant.

6. How does your completed project compare to the picture you had in mind when you started the
project? Explain the reason behind any changes from your proposal.

At the beginning of the process when wrote my proposal I thought I was going to host a field day event at
a local school. But as I went through the process I began to look at it to go into a class and teach it that
way. And then I continued the process of looking for games and then about a week I spoke with Coach
Brown and he explained to me on how a P.E. class actually works and how to write the lesson plan.

7. If given the opportunity, explain what you would have done differently now that you speak from
experience?

If I could do it again, I would have taught the class a Health class first and then follow it up with a P.E.
class so that the students would get the full effect of what my project stood for. Because even though I
taught the students how to be active but I wasn’t able to go in depth about how to eat healthy in order to
have a healthy lifestyle.
8. Beyond the project itself, what did you learn about yourself? What did you get out of the
experience in terms of personal growth?

I learned that I can step out of my comfort zone and speak out loud and teach a class. I am not an
outgoing person and this was a complete and total new experience for me. Teaching a class was a stretch
for me because I don’t have a problem speaking in front of a class of people I know but I wasn’t familiar
with any of the children that I taught. Even though they are young children, I didn’t want to be the mean
visitor who is constantly telling them to be quite and have to punish them by sitting them out or anything
like that. Sometimes the class was getting to loud and I wasn’t able to explain the next activity but I got
them to calm down and everything went smoothly and we had time at the end for games. I grown from
this experience and if I had the chance to do it all again I would.

9. What grade would you give yourself on the project? Be honest! Justify the evaluation of your
grade in at least 25 words.

Grade: B+ to A-

Justification: I think I should get a B+ or an A- because even though my whole life is sports and doing
different physical activities but I’ve never had an event or taught a class. And the only younger kids I’ve
ever dealt with are my little brothers’ friends who I was somewhat familiar with. But these students are
6th graders who are immature and have basically no attention span. So it was difficult to get them to quiet
so I was able to explain what the next activity was.
