THE CARSON BURSARIES

FOR INTEGRATED EDUCATION 2017-18

APPLICATION FORM – CARSON BURSARY
GUIDELINES

Background
The Carson Awards are named in honour of the legendary Northern Ireland comedian the late Frank Carson
and his son Tony. Frank was a passionate supporter of integrated education and his commitment continues
through the Carson Awards. Sponsored by Tony, the Awards are now in their tenth year.

Aim of the Carson Bursaries

The aim of the Carson Bursaries is to encourage integrated education students in the creative fields. In
keeping with the characters of Frank and Tony, creativity is the key and applications are welcome in the
artistic medium of the students’ choosing. From theatre to literature, film to photography, comedy to
pottery - bursaries are awarded for students to carry out and complete a project under the theme of
‘What Integrated Education Means to Me’.

We understand from NICIE that the theme this year for Integrated Education Month will be ‘Everybody
Outstanding ’, therefore you may wish to incorporate this into the core theme ‘What integrated education
means to me’ to enable your project to reflect that overall celebration.

Funding Available
The Carson Bursaries are open to all Year 11, 12, 13 and 14 pupils who attend an integrated school and
students can apply for an award up to a maximum of £1,000. The bursary may be used to support the
project work of students working towards examinations.

The bursary can also be used for a collaborative project with students from another school or schools
including non integrated schools.
