HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
Hello everyone. My name is Phuc, the author of “Vocabulary Box”. This book
consists of two main parts. Part 1 includes 10 units representing 10 most popular
topics with 16 specific words and phrases for each unit. Moreover, each unit
provides you with 5 parts from A to F including different types of exercises which
are designed to make you remember the given vocabulary longer. Part 2 gives you
10 samples of IELTS Speaking Part 2 for 10 mentioned units. In order to learn it
properly and effectively, you should follow the guideline as follow:
Step 1: Having a look at part A which gives you 16 useful words and phrases that
you should learn and then do every exercise. Importantly, you should rely on A
(the table) to do exercises from B to F.
Step 2: Checking your answers by comparing with the Key at the end of the book
and learning from mistakes if possible. (Use Cambridge Online Dictionary to look
words up)
Step 3: Learning only one unit and a relevant sample per day, as well as revising
the previous unit before moving to the next one.
Note: Besides the exercises of this book, there are many viable methods to
remember vocabulary. For example, you can try to apply vocabulary into daily
conversations, write words on paper stickers and then attaching them on your
room’s wall, etc. Finally, I hope you will use this book effectively, thereby
enhancing your English ability.

I would like to talk about one of the most fundamental environmental pollution in
my hometown, which is air contamination caused by traffic and factories. You
know, there has been a surge in the number of vehicles in my city for a decade on
an account of economic development. Therefore, the amount of carbon emissions
emitted from those means of transport has been increasing dramatically,
deteriorating the air we breathe. Moreover, factories discharge toxic waste and
CO2 into our surroundings, which exacerbate the public health. In order to tackle
the issue, I think the authorities had better upgrade the public transport by
improving the service and ban cars at certain period of time, especially in rush
hours. Only by doing so, traffic congestions could be mitigated, thereby reducing
carbon emissions. It is also worth introducing green taxes to tightly control
factories’ operations and limit our carbon footprint. Last but not least, the city
council should carry out tree-planting schemes to refresh the city’s air.

I would like to share with you about the deterioration of natural areas in my
hometown. Due to the industrialization and modernization in my country, my city
has no exception, therefore; new buildings and roads are constructed, causing air
and noise pollution. Consequently, the public health is affected and our daily life
has been adversely affected. Moreover, the tropical rain forest behind the city
which is home of many endangered species has been chopped down to make way
for an international hospital and a skyscraper. I think those flora and fauna are on
the verge of extinction owing to detrimental effects of the giant project. However,
thousands of citizens have been staging a protest against the project due to its
consequences towards the environment and their normal life. The city council said
they have erected a zoo to home all animals and protect them from poachers.
Speaking of the local residents who have been seriously impacted by the noise
